Buying shoes online for kids is tricky – there’s Australian sizing, European sizing and US sizing. But getting the best fit for teeny tootsies just got a whole lot easier with our kids’ shoe size conversion chart.

Whether the shoe you’re looking at has EU, US or AU sizing, just skim along to the correct column and you’ll be sorted in no time.

There are three kinds of shoe sizes that you will encounter – EU, UK and US sizes. Generally, the Australian sizes are the same as the UK sizes. But you need to know what your child’s US and EU equivalent shoe size is because many shoe styles come in EU or US sizes.

Whether you’re on the hunt for new school shoes, dress shoes or sports shoes, use our kids’ shoe size conversion guide to accurately find out your child’s shoe size. But before you do this, it’s a good idea to measure your child’s foot first.

How to measure your child’s foot

It’s worth keeping in mind that there’s also no standard Australian children’s shoe sizing, so using foot measurement is a handy way to get it right. Here’s an easy way to do it:

  1. Measure your child’s feet from the tip of their big toe to the back of their heel. The best way to do this is to get them to stand on a piece of paper and trace around their toes and heels, then measure the paper.
  2. Add a little bit extra for growth – about 0.5 – 1.0cm for babies and around 1cm for toddlers and bigger kids.
  3. To measure the width, mark the sides of the foot at the widest part. Then measure the marks for the widest part of your child’s foot.

Keep in mind that measuring your child’s foot is a guide, not a guarantee. It can help you with determining your child’s size, but nothing can take the place of going into the shop for a proper fitting and trying on the shoes.

FAQs

Are UK and Australian kids’ shoe sizes the same?

Yes, the UK and Australia have the same kids’ shoe sizing system. However other countries do have different shoe sizing systems to Australia and the UK. All European countries use the EU shoe size system, but this isn’t the same as Australia’s. The US is different again. If you’re unsure, the best thing to do is measure your child’s feet and use the chart above.

How do kids’ shoe sizes in Australia work?

There’s actually no standard Australian shoe sizing system, so you may find that while a certain size fits your child in one brand, that size may not be right in a different brand. Again, the best thing to do is measure your child’s feet and use the chart above, or head into your local shoe store and have their feet professionally measured.

  • So bloody confusing! I wish I saw this before I stuffed up the size I bought my kids a few weeks ago hahaha. I thought they were the same as US so I’ve ordered a size too small. I think women’s AU is the same as US which is why I thought kids were too?? Correct me if I’m wrong ????
