It’s hard to smell a Glasshouse Tahaa Affair candle and not fall completely, head over heels in love with its rich caramel and vanilla scent. Until you look at the price tag! But fear not, Kmart has done it again with an affordable dupe that has customers raving.

Tahaa Affair is one of, if not the most, popular candle fragrance in the Glasshouse range – and it’s pretty easy to see (or smell) why. If you’ve ever walked into a Peter Alexander store you’ll know its sweet aroma well. It’s described as: ‘Ambrosial with heavenly caramel and coconut’ that will ‘transport you to the beaches of Tahaa’.

But the kicker is the triple-scented soy Glasshouse Tahaa Affair candle retails for $99.95 for 760g. As a devotee of this candle, I can hand on heart say it’s worth it – the smell is strong and lasts right down to the last drop of wax. But, if spending a hundred bucks on a candle isn’t your style, Kmart’s got your back.

TikTok user Georgia Wiley shared a video of what she believes is the perfect Tahaa Affair dupe, the $15 Kmart Extra Large Tahitian Vanilla Fragrant Candle. Not only is it a fraction of the price, but it’s bigger, and according to Georgia, is just like the Glasshouse version.

“I went to Kmart today and I’m pretty sure they have the recipe for Tahaa Affair by Glasshouse,” Georgia explains. “This bad boy cost me $15. Didn’t cost me my organs to buy it and it smells bloody identical. It’s literally the same thing just with different labelling. It’s three wick. And it’s huge.”

The video attracted a huge amount of interest, but there was one common concern. Does it actually smell just as good when it’s burning?

According to Georgia, it smells ‘really good’ while burning, and others who have tried it agreed.

“It even leaves that long lasting smell like the glasshouse one too!” commented Harvey.

“This smells amazing! I bought it for work and every single person compliments the smell,” added
Laura Jolly.

  • I have a few scented candles but have never used them as a scent. Living in an area with regular power outages, I only ever use candles when the power is out

  • Sounds like the impersonator might be worth a try. Can’t imagine ever spending $100 on a candle, but clearly people do otherwise it wouldn’t be on the shelf

  • I don’t buy candles. But it seems like good value.

  • Other candles never have quite as strong a small as Glasshouse.
I bought a handful from Dusk and they didn’t even make the house smell nice. They smell nice in the jar but that’s about as far as it goes. I was pretty disappointed.
Have also tried so many others but nothing beats Glasshouse in terms of making a room really smell nice.

  • As long as it lasts as long I’d give it a try.

  • I would take a dupe candle anytime as long as it smells good. Like everything else Originals are soooooo overpriced these days!
