Hello!

I absolutely love that there is a person out there called the Kmart Hack Queen. A shopping expert who can save me big bucks and oodles of time and simply tell me what are the top must-have Kmart items that I should NOT be living without.

Kmart is great for mooching around and checking what new delights they have on their shelves but honestly, I just don’t have the time to spend hours browsing and price comparing. I’d much prefer the experts to just tell what are the best budget buys.

Samantha from Perth is the self-confessed Kmart Hack Queen. She’s got a thriving Instagram account, where she posts her favourite Kmart discoveries and styling ideas.

Mum-of-two, Sam shares that her “daughter introduced me to Instagram. She liked my styling and storage and suggested other people would be interested in this and it’s grown from there.”

Sam lives the Kmart way of life and has decked out her home with all Kmart goodies. Sam loves that she can “have a stylish on-trend home but well within my budget,” she reveals to the Daily Mail.

“I love to change my mind quite often and swap and change products all the time. So if I was going to pay a lot more for my items, I wouldn’t be able to achieve this. I love styling and organising and doing things my way so Kmart just feeds my inner creatively,” said the budget-conscious super-shopper.

Must-Have Kmart Homewares

Sam has shared a list of her favourite stylish must-have Kmart homewares, with each item under $50.

Samantha’s list of must-have Kmart items includes:

1. Rattan floor lamp – $49

This is Samantha’s all-round favourite must-have Kmart product at the moment.

“I love this lamp because it’s so versatile. You can place it in the bedroom or living space – it suits a contemporary and natural scheme,” she said.

2. Faux flowers – $3 to $8

“Fake flowers are great for styling and changing a look of a cabinet. They look cosy in a corner of a bedroom or living space. Kmart always brings budget friendly flowers in stores, with a range of styles from native to your everyday rose,” she said.

3. Large tall glass vase – $12

“The tall glass vases are great for flowers or just as a styling piece with fake plants,” Samantha shared.

4. Furniture pieces – including the $35 half moon table and the $39 entertainment unit

Samantha said she is obsessed with the Kmart black furniture pieces, including a coffee table, entertainment unit and the $35 ‘half moon’ table.

5. Hanging plant in pot – $9

“The plants in a pot are great for just $9, I’ve purchased around 10 of these.”

6. Hammered Triple Wick Fragrant Candle – $15

7. Marble table – $35

“Marble tables are great, solid pieces of furniture with heavy marble. I actually don’t understand how something is made with such good quality but is still well priced,” she said.

8. Set of two round oak table – $49

“These have been a popular item in 2020. I love them… I actually don’t own these yet but it’s on my ‘to-get’ list,” Sam said.

9. Black coffee table – large $39, and small $29

Samantha loves her ‘stylish’ set of two black round coffee tables, which costs $39 for the larger size and $29 for the smaller version.

10. Glass canister – large $5.50, small $4 and a set of two mini $4

Sam loves the glass pantry containers. “They have a great seal, budget friendly, classy looking and heavy duty,” she said.

Sam also shares some really useful storage and home styling tips.

How Do I reorganise my kitchen pantry?

“Take your time, be patient and make sure you measure and do a good clean out. When you are re-stocking your pantry make sure you are putting back what you will actually use. Also, think about how you use your pantry every day and put products that you use most often in easy to access spaces or use different storage containers,” Samantha shared in an interview with Belmont Forum.

Top tips and products for laundry organisation?

“Using a mix of canisters & containers that can be stacked or used openly. The collapsible laundry hampers are great if you don’t have much space in your laundry and the scandi shelf is great for extra storage. Wooden hooks are also handy to hang items from, just place a wooden duck board over your trough area for extra bench space.”

Sam’s advice for styling your home:

“Take inspiration from Instagram. Use containers that can be used in other areas of your home so you’re not limited if you have to re-use the container. Products can be used in many different ways, don’t always think that the item has to be used in the way it was meant to be. For example, the wooden duck board can be used over a trough space or in the bathroom.”

“You don’t have to spend a fortune to have a stunning home,’ shares Sam. With your help Sam, we can do it too!

  • Samantha’s pantry looks neat and pretty but what does she do with the vegemite, peanut butter, other condiments, biscuits, paper towels, alfoil, cling wrap, tin food, stuff you buy in jars and all the rest of the usual pantry items? I have a long skinny one door pantry in my kitchen for opened items and a walk in pantry not in the kitchen for all my bulk groceries of unopned items and it looks nothing like Samantha’s pantry. It’s full of paper towels, toilet rolls, jars of food, tin food, shampoo, conditioner, alfoil, cooking oil, sauces, coffee, tea bags, biscuits, cling wrap, cleaning items, toothpaste, deodorants and so on. There’s no way I’d start tipping the kitchen food stuff that I could into little containers or hide them in storage boxes. When I need something, it’s in its original packaging, easily identifiable with the use by date intact. Good on her though for wanting a cute, tidy pantry but for me, that isn’t practical. As for my must have Kmart items, I don’t have any must haves but I do have a heap of Kmart furniture and accessories that I really liked at the time I bought them and still do. There’s really nothing from Kmart that I don’t love but I do rate the faux plants in the containers, the original Scandi desks and metal lockers, small and tall. For me, it isn’t financially viable to keep changing my Kmart furniture and accessories on a whim as that just defeats the purpose of me buying affordable Kmart furniture and accessories in the first place. Thanks for the look into Samantha’s pantry though, always good to see how other people utilise their spaces.

  • I do wonder what she does with the items she changes out often? I understand the desire for change, but her way sounds quite expensive and wasteful. I love the door of the pantry but the rest doesn’t look overly organised to me, but you have to do what you can with the space you have.

  • Think everyone has been shopping at Kmart in isolation- my local had no storage baskets this week
