Finally…Vegetarians rejoice! McDonald’s Australia has launched the highly anticipated McVeggie Burger to all restaurants nationwide.

This new burger will be a permanent addition to the menu, making it the first time a vegetable-based burger has been available at all McDonald’s restaurants in Australia.

The burger will feature a crunchy patty packed with potatoes, peas, corn, carrot and onion. This will be topped with cheese, lettuce, herbs and spices, mayonnaise and Macca’s iconic pickles, all on a sesame seed bun.

“We know there’s an appetite for alternatives to traditional meat proteins and Australians are looking for more plant-based options in their diet,” said Jenni Dill, Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald’s Australia

The Burger Is NOT Vegetarian

However the McVeggie Burger is not strictly vegetarian.

“For those who are vegetarian, although there are no meat ingredients in the McVeggie Burger, due to its cooking procedure, it’s not strictly vegetarian,” added Ms Dill.

The McVeggie Burger will be available after 10:30am at all McDonald’s restaurants across Australia.

  • Little confused… it’s ‘not vegetarian’ because of the way it’s cooked? Do you mean it’s no vegan? Because vegetarians eat animal biproducts, just not meat directly. From what you’ve said it sounds vegetarian to me but I could be missing something?

  • Kinda crap it’s not actually vegetarian prepared, but does “sound” like a healthier option, curious to see if it’s actually healthy haha

  • Honestly this is ridiculous and almost a joke. Why even bother introducing a vegetarian burger if it can’t even be consumed by VEGETARIANS! Same thing with the hungry jacks plant based burger, cooked on the same grill as the normal patties. I got excited for a second and would honestly buy it IF it was vegetarian but then again, even if it was the risk of cross contamination is high – I used to work at KFC – we used to get customers who couldn’t consume certain things like pork or even meat for religious or dietary reasons and the people making the burger would use the same tongs for everything without a care in the world. We had a co-working throw bacon into the chip frier one night to put in his burger WHEN we have many VEGETARIAN and VEGAN or occasionally MUSLIM and JEWISH customers buy chips (because of dietary restrictions) . Ridiculous. These foods are poison for our bodies and environments anyways – better to buy from smaller more conscious suppliers either way – better quality, better service and much more ethical.
