Australian comedian and TV host Mel Buttle has revealed she’s been keeping a very sweet secret – that she and her partner welcomed a baby boy seven weeks ago.

The Great Australian Bake Off host shared her news on radio, revealing her partner had carried their little boy, who they named Harry.

“It’s a big announcement and I want to get it done on the radio, one for attention and two to tell everyone in one hit so I don’t have to go and keep telling people,” Mel said on KIIS 97.3FM.

“I don’t quite know how to say it. I have … I’ve got … a baby. I have a baby. I’m not joking. This isn’t a ‘bit’ I’m not going to trick you … I have a seven week old baby. My partner and I had a baby.”

Mel, who has amassed a huge following on TikTok for her comedic portrayal of  ‘every Aussie mum’, says she and her partner wanted to keep their boy’s arrival quiet for the first few weeks.

“My partner carried our child. He’s a boy. I’ve been a bit reluctant to put him on the Internet, to put him on social media because I thought, he’s got a right to privacy. Why am I telling all these people I don’t know that I’ve got a baby?”

The former I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here star, says she realised that she’ll be drawing on motherhood for even more inspiration for her stand up comedy.

“I want to talk about him on stage .. I need help, I need advice, I need coffee. I didn’t want to hide him, but I wanted to just have a little bubble with just us for a little bit. Now I want help”

Mel, who announced her engagement to ex-footballer Noran Abaza last year, says Harry is sleeping in ’45 minute intervals’

“He’s poo-up-the-back weeks old,” she added.

The 40-year-old told The Courier Mail that she and Noran conceived Harry via IVF. And she says they’re planning more children in the future.

“It was very emotional. I’ve always wanted to have kids and I would love for him to have a sibling one day.”

  • Fair enough. I dont see why those in the public eye have to tell us everything anyway. They need to be able to have some sort of private life.

  • Congratulations on both fronts – for announcing the birth of your child and for not having put it ‘ou there’ for everyone to ooh and aah about for the past 9 months.

  • It is refreshing to hear of special things being kept quiet until the person chooses to share.
