Mother failed to feed her baby properly and then set up an online fundraiser to “support its recovery”.

A Brisbane woman has been charged with torture, grievous bodily harm and fraud offences after she allegedly failed to feed a baby properly and then set up an online fundraiser to “support its recovery”, reports 9 news.

Police were told in July that a ten-month-old baby girl had been taken to hospital a number of times with “symptoms of malnourishment”.

Officers launched an investigation and will allege the baby was “not given adequate nutrition or fed properly”.

They will further allege the woman set up an online fundraiser to support the baby’s recovery.

The 27-year-old woman was arrested yesterday, and has been charged with one count each of torture, grievous bodily harm and fraud.

She is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

The GoFundMe page set up in February has raised more than $15,000.

We will bring you more to this story as details are revealed.

We recently shared the story of a QLD other who avoided jail after she malnourished her five-month-old, rather than feed him formula, fearing it would be unhealthy for the baby and made her a failure.

  • That poor baby, hopefully it will now go to someone who will love and cherish it the way every baby deserves to be treated

  • that is a sick and twisted way to make money. That poor baby girl must have been in so much pain and discomfort.

Shame on the hospital for not notifying DOCS to flag this as a potential issue, especially after the second hospital visit.

I hope that the child is now in a loving family environment, and that the mother has the book thrown at her and doesn’t get a light sentence.

I also hope that those innocent people who just wanted to help the little girl out get their money back too

  • YOu really should have to pass a mental health exam to be a mother! or parent for that matter!

  • I hope theyfind the full details of the people who donated their portion of the $15,000.00. The Police have to recover the funds first. I think they will need to be held as evidence until the case is finalised. Why didn’t the hospital report the issue to the appropriate authorities after there was a second visit to hospital. The neglect of feeding may have caused organ damage too.

  • How disgusting, getting attention by making her poor baby sick. It’s called Munchausen syndrome by proxy, this mother definitely has a mental illness, it doesn’t excuse her behaviour though!

  • Oh my! How is the girl doing now?
And what happened to those $15,000?
