Mother failed to feed her baby properly and then set up an online fundraiser to “support its recovery”.
A Brisbane woman has been charged with torture, grievous bodily harm and fraud offences after she allegedly failed to feed a baby properly and then set up an online fundraiser to “support its recovery”, reports 9 news.
Police were told in July that a ten-month-old baby girl had been taken to hospital a number of times with “symptoms of malnourishment”.
Officers launched an investigation and will allege the baby was “not given adequate nutrition or fed properly”.
They will further allege the woman set up an online fundraiser to support the baby’s recovery.
The 27-year-old woman was arrested yesterday, and has been charged with one count each of torture, grievous bodily harm and fraud.
She is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
The GoFundMe page set up in February has raised more than $15,000.
We will bring you more to this story as details are revealed.
We recently shared the story of a QLD other who avoided jail after she malnourished her five-month-old, rather than feed him formula, fearing it would be unhealthy for the baby and made her a failure.
