Mum claims latest Coles promo is a total flop and the containers are “just no good”.

The latest Coles promotion sees shoppers earn one ‘container credit’ for every $20 they spend in Coles stores, with five different-sized containers to collect in the whole set.

The supermarket has faced criticism over whether the containers are in fact free given that the smallest storage box requires $200 worth of credits, one Aussie mum has an entirely different complaint.

During a discussion on a popular mums Facebook group about the containers, the mum declared them to be ‘a flop’.

‘Coles containers are a flop. Fact.’ she declared. ‘I actually have enough points for the whole set but can’t be arsed getting it. It won’t match anything else I have at home. I have no idea what brand it is and how will I be able to buy extra pieces should I want them all to match?!?!?

‘And they’re just no good. What a joke. A flop is putting it nicely. Very nicely!’

While other mums agreed, with one even complaining that the ‘seal doesn’t work’ – others said they were loving the new containers.

Have you claimed any containers yet? What do you think of the quality?

  • I got some of these containers and I have had no issue with them. Something for nothing so it works for me.

  • Great, they run out of the pumps 2 weeks before the promotion ends, what a letdown and shortsighted management.

  • I noticed you can buy them, perhaps they should keep them available after the points thing so they’re always available, especially the pumps if they should break.

  • Mine work OK and as I was spending the money on things I needed the containers were an added bonus for nothing as I would have bought my items anyway. The points still add up like usual and the extra gift is just that.

  • I dun have enough credit to redeem even the smallest container. If I managed to get one its just bonus I won’t go out of my way to collect it. I shop between woolies and coles for half price groceries.

  • I just got my 1st container and pump. Haven’t put anything in it yet. But I’ve had fun sucking the air out of it and then hearing the hiss of the air coming back in lol

  • I don’t really care about any of the major supermarkets promotions

  • I haven’t got any but I don’t think she was the target of the promo if she needs all of her containers to match.

  • This doesn’t really interest me, cheers.

  • What if you cant find the vacuum pump how annoying

  • These are just a bonus for shopping there. It doesn’t cost anything extra to get them. If they aren’t what you want then you just keep saving your points until there is something you do want. Simple as that

  • I haven’t got enough points to redeem yet but will be happy for the containers if I do. I shop the specials between Coles and Woolies regardless of their promotions – they are a bonus.

  • Mine work fine. I’ve bought 2 of the same size as I’ve noticed my son regularly uses these work lunches. And for the whingers, don’t participate. It’s not compulsory. Nobody is asking you to spend money to be able to participate. Seriously? Whingeing for whingeing’s sake.

  • I don’t have flybuys so it’s not an option for me, and I have no intention of getting flybuys either.

  • I didn’t even know this was a promotion! Total marketing fail. If you already shop at Coles it would be okay but if your going out of your way to spend the money to get the containers it’s not worth it at all.

  • Once I saw how much I would need to spend I wasn’t interested. I shop at all 3 to save

  • Look, in all honesty it’s still better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick. People forget they don’t have to give anything for free but we do have to buy groceries from somewhere. In Tassie there’s only 2 main options unless you go IGA and Coles already does flybuys which allows me to get something worth around $250 at the end of each year with how much I spend. Large containers are always handy for me as I freeze large quantities and the credits do add up each week. The only thing for me is it’s not very clear how to redeem.

  • Its a pathetic promo you have to spend heaps to get even the smallest thing.

  • I haven’t received any yet as most of my shopping is at Safeway!

  • I normally shop at Coles anyway and am always in need of containers so I get something useful without changing anything that I would normally do. I am not so fussy that everything I own has to “match”.
