A pregnant mum has shared her hilarious (and disgusting!) experience after her two-year-old daughter had a toilet training disaster.

A mum has shared her horror experience after her two-year-old daughter had a toilet training disaster that sent her husband running for a bucket.

The mum, who is expecting her second child, said that she put her daughter down to sleep while her husband was in the shower and planned to have an early night herself when the chaos began.

A Nasty Surprise

Just moments after she was put down to sleep, the mum says that her daughter had a major toilet training disaster that is every parent’s worst nightmare.

“She covered herself from head to toe in her own poop,” she wrote in her post.

“She smeared it on the TV, the carpet, and all over her favourite blanket. It was in her hair and beneath her nails. It covered her belly and her back. Poop was EVERYWHERE.”

As if there wasn’t already enough mess, the mum says when her husband saw what had happened, he couldn’t hold it together.

“My husband has a weak stomach,” she said. “Cue projectile vomit. EVERYWHERE. I just sat down and cry-laughed for a good ten minutes. We’re expecting our second later this year. Send help!”

Not All Fun And Games

Comments on the mum’s post shared similar experiences, but some pointed out that many children never feel the need to play with their poop.

“Parents are poop masters! Masters of the poopaverse!” one mum wrote. “I am potty training my three-year-old and my life now revolves around other people’s bowel movements.”

“So far my two-year-old only wants to look at her poop, she’s very proud of her hard work,” another said. “We’re now potty training so fingers crossed it won’t progress to touching.”

The experience of toilet training is never an easy one, and if you manage to get out of it without at least one incident, you’re definitely in the minority! At least this mum was able to laugh at the situation – we don’t think her husband will ever live it down.

  • Will be toilet training in a while, feel like I would rather deal with a nappy. We use cloth so I’m used to having to wash.

  • Oh dear. I just read about a couple with a puppy. They went to bed & woke to disaster. Puppy had pooped and their automatic robot vacuum ran over it then left a trail if poop everywhere it vacuumed that night. I feel for you.

  • Yes ! My youngest has a developmental delay and we had many incidents of her smearing with poo and on some occasions she ate it too.
    * we reduced accessibility; onesies back to front during the night, sleepig tog back to front with extra fastening
    * change nappies as soon as possible after they’re soiled,
    * address sensory issues; poo has a nice soft texture like playdough and goo. We started to frequently offer playing with play dough as alternative
    * behavioural; look to the the behaviour and what happens before (trigger) during and after (consequence) of the smearing
    * we responded as neutral and with little amount of words as possible; no strong emotional reactions as they can be very reinforcing, praise for positive behaviour instead

    • Btwfecal smearing, also called scatolia in medical literature, is surprisingly common among children and adults. It happens more by children with a developmental delay or in the occurance of post traumatic stress.
My 11yr old (who has RAD, Conduct disorder and kleptomania) smeared with poo and pee till she was 10yrs old, often to get back to me/us. For example i would suggest it’s tidy up time before dinner and she didn’t want to finish her activity and then would smear. Or she would remove the cleaning fluids out of the spray bottle and fill it up with her pee. Or she would go to the toilet and had poo on her fingers, she would smear it on the walls instead of washing her hands.

  • OMG poor mother! I would be like her hubby though and throw up even though it’s my child and hubby would end up cleaning it. I have a very weak stomach.

  • I think my worst toilet training experience was when my son squatted in the corner of my parents lounge room and had a poop. Not that awful, although my parents were horrified.

  • My only problem with toilet training was number three being hospitalise and having to retrain him to use the potty again, that was harder to do. They had him in nappies and in a cot so he could not go to the toilet. He was one of those that just went to his pot and did his business then came to ask me to help clean him up if needed.

  • Wow….where do u start with the cleaning

    • Hehe, I remember once my youngest was around 2yrs old and still in the cot (she wasn’t able to walk yet). She soiled herself, climbed out of the cot, trashed the room totally and smeared poo everywhere.
Initially when I faced the situation, I closed the door and walked away ! I first had to gather courage 😉
