We know we all need to do good things for the planet but actually implementing them and living green can be so overwhelming! One step at a time is all it takes.

Just start doing one or two things here and there when you can, by implementing these small things into our daily lives, our kids will learn by example and go on to be natural eco-warriors themselves.

Here are a few easy ways to be an eco-warrior:

Stop buying books, newspapers and magazines
Turn off stand-by appliances
Visit the local OP shop
Carpool
BYO bags or boxes when shopping
Bulk buy
BYO cup when purchasing a hot drink or juice etc

Mums also share their clever tips below:

“I take some stainless steel straws and my reusable cup with my everywhere in my reusable carry bag.”

“When I order a takeaway pizza, I always ask that they don’t include that little plastic “table” in the middle that stops the top of the box from touching the pizza because its unnecessary and cannot be reused for anything else.”

“One big change I am making in my household is using plastic reusable containers instead of glad wrap for meals and also using metal straws instead of plastic ones.”

“My daughter and I recently upcycled some old pillow cases into fold away shopping bags. We are going to put them in the loot bags for her birthday party instead of plastic junk!”

“We have used modern cloth nappies on both of our girl’s and recently we have changed from using disposable wipes to reusable ones and we also take reusable straws with us when out and about.”

What is one big change you are making in your everyday life to go plastic free?

  • Women can use cloth pads or a menstrual cup instead of nasty disposable stuff. I will never stop buying books though. Consider me a one woman carbon storage with my library.

  • I too have a mobile reusable cups. I refuse drinks if they are plastic or have anything plastic. I am building my reusable container store. I’m onto it, slowly, one step at a time

  • We’ve started using newspaper as bin liners and we recycle the plastic packaging to the woolies redcycle down the road. And I also started using paper bags rather than ziplock bags.
