Police have cordoned off a semi-rural property in Bonny Hills, as the search for missing toddler William Tyrell continues.

William, 3, went missing from his grandmother’s home on September 12 last year while playing a game of hide and seek.

A 10 kilometre search of the surrounding area failed to find any trace of him.

This lack of evidence has been the main stumbling block in the toddler’s disappearance, with Superintendent Paul Fehon saying late last year “We are open to any possibility, including human intervention.”

The police’s main priority over the last few months has been to sort through and prioritise the “hundreds of CrimeStoppers reports which have been received from the public.”

On Tuesday night, police searched a pawn shop in Laurieton, seizing items including a computer and a mattress. Two people were questioned, however they were released without charge.

Excavation crews then arrived at the shop owner’s home early this morning, with Fairfax reporting that police are planning on draining a septic tank and grease trap on the property.

The property’s residents are believed to be an elderly couple that have custody of at least three of their grandchildren. According to neighbours, the couple have been renting for the last few years.

While William’s parents are unable to speak publicly about the disappearance, Superintendent Fehon expressed that the last few months have been “extremely difficult” for them, particularly having to endure “Christmas without young William”.

We can’t even begin to imagine what William’s family is going through, and we would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to them at this incredibly difficult time.

  • This is such a heartbreaking story. It has been such a long time without any leads. I have a son that is of a similar age and breaks my heart to think of the heart ache that the parents and family are going through.

  • This is the saddest most horrible outcome if they find his body there.
If it were my child I couldn’t be held accountable for what I might do to those people. 🙁
