We love the ’73 questions’ series from VOGUE Australia and their most recent one featuring Nicole Kidman is a favourite.

The video is shot at Nicole (and Keith’s) 45 hectare rural Australian home.  Yes it looks like a movie set and Nicole doesn’t really look like any of us would when we’re picking up toys, but the house is to die for. From room to room to room, it’s a sprawling country mansion – stunning!

More than that, we love that even though the home looks like it’s been styled for a cover shoot of Vogue, there are still the same things in the background that we’d have …

The plastic kitchen in the corner of the room that doesn’t necessarily match the house (just like me)!
The 'outside' pram and the big plastic car (although ours was The Wiggles car)
The ‘outside’ pram and the big plastic car (although ours was The Wiggles car)

We also see a normal old kettle and possibly some plastic wrap on the bench in the kitchen (admittedly this is the ‘cottage’ kitchen which looks nicer than my normal kitchen but it’s TV and she is a movie star).

As Nicole is picking up a toy from the floor (yeah this looked pretty contrived when she kicks it and then picks it up but we’re happy to concede), we love what she says when asked two questions close to our hearts …

“What’s the best part about being a mum?” to which Nicole answers “Oh, everything … the love, the joy, the purpose”.

YES, I love that.  THE PURPOSE.  She’s nailed it – we do have a true purpose from the moment we become mums don’t we?  Yes we had purpose before but I think until you become a mum, it’s not as clear and it’s not a selfless purpose.

“What the hardest thing about being a mum?”

Her answer surprised me and to be honest, I’d never really thought about this as one of the hardest things. But it’s so true.  Nicole says the hardest thing she feels about being a mum is “knowing she won’t be around forever to look after them”.

There’s 71 other questions in the video – some will make you laugh and others give you an insight into this actress you wouldn’t get anywhere else.

Thanks Vogue – we love this series.

What would you say if we asked you “What’s the best part about being a mum?”

  • I think this is the first time I saw Nicole looking at home in a video interview.

  • Ah, Nicole, doing it tough at the rural house. Some of us only have one house and are desperately hanging on to that…now that’s tough. Struggle sometimes to believe ‘celebrities’ who believe it’s tough when they can afford so many luxuries eg. nannies, extra houses all over the world, cleaners etc..

    • I think the number of celebrities whose marriages fail, who succumb to alcohol and drug addiction etc, is fair enough evidence that people are people, it doesn’t matter how much money you have..in fact sometimes it just provides faster and greater access to your own detriment. As they say money doesn’t buy happiness but it’s easier to be miserable in a ferrari than a 2nd hand Holden.
