The whole world is going air fryer crazy. This genius appliance has given us the gift of ‘healthy’ deep-fried deliciousness without the oil and we can’t get enough of it. And now, to top it off, a genius air fryer fan has created air fryer pastry pies filled with freddo frogs and caramello koalas.

An air fryer works by circulating hot air around the surfaces of food, which then cooks it evenly. The food comes out with a crispy, golden-brown exterior, making it look as if it has been deep-fried.

You can give all sorts of meals a healthy air fryer twist – crispy chips and chicken nuggets are our favourite but we’ve also made donuts, cookies and even brussel sprouts. But air fryer freddo frog treats take the cake.

Creative Air Fryer Desserts

The air fryer chocolate pastry parcels are the invention of Joanne Palmer, a member of the facebook group – Share Kmart Air Fryer Recipes Australia. She posted photos of her creation with the explanation:
“3.2L air fryer Caramello Koala and Freddo Frog. Definitely the kids’ new favourite dessert. It tastes delicious and the chocolate melted really nicely inside. Cooked at 190C for 9 minutes.”

Joanne explained to taste.com.au that she got the inspiration for the dessert from the Caramilk Twirl chocolates wrapped in puff pastry, that had also been shared on the air fryer fan group.

Ingredients

This dessert is really easy to prepare. You just need two sheets of puff pastry, the freddo frog or caramello koala chocolates and some milk and you’re ready to go.

What you need to do:

1) Cut an outline of the freddo or koala into your puff pastry. Leave a border of a few centimetres around the chocolates. Repeat this process so you have two outlines for each chocolate.

2) Place the chocolate between the two pieces of pastry and crimp the edges together using your fingers or a fork.

3) Brush the pastry with milk

4) Cook in the air fryer at 190 degrees Celsius for about nine minutes.

And that’s it! This air fryer dessert is going to become one of my quick and easy go-to desserts. I may need to experiment with other chocolates too.

Do you have an air fryer yet? What is your favourite thing to make in your air fryer? Tell us in the comments below.

  • I have seen this pop up several times on Facebook! Looks yummy

We had an air fryer that had a rotating arm in the middle, which could be taken out. Now we have the target basket one which I find so much better and quieter
