A teacher has been slammed by outraged parents for telling children as young as six that Santa “wasn’t real”.

The female substitute teacher allegedly trashed the hopes and dreams of her innocent charges by dismissing the idea of Santa Claus and rubbishing other holiday traditions, shares The Sun.

Angry parents took to Facebook, with one outraged mother saying the teacher didn’t stop at trashing just Santa.

Mum Lisa Simek raged: “She told them reindeer can’t fly and elves are not real- elf on the shelf is just a pretend doll that your parents move around.

“She did not even stop there.

“The tooth fairy is not real because mom or dad just sneak into your room in the middle of the night and put money under your pillow, same goes for the Easter bunny.

“She told them magic does not exist – there is no such thing as magic anything.”

Ms Simek went on to say that her daughter and the other 22 children in her class all saw their festive spirits crushed by the teacher’s thoughtless actions.

And the outpouring of parental anger saw New Jersey school Principal Michael Raj step in, according to WKRG.

He wrote a letter to the upset families explaining he had “immediately” spoken to the substitute teacher about her “poor judgement”.

He added: “‘I am sending this letter so that you are aware of the situation and if the conversation comes up at home over the next few days you can take appropriate steps to maintain the childhood innocence of the holiday season.”

It remains unclear if the teacher will be offered any more work at the school in the future.

Perhaps people need to learn to keep their opinions to themselves and not spoil the fun for everyone!

  • So sad to do that to children- let them have some magic in their lifes for as long as possible. Let children be children. She should be ashamed of herself.

  • My sons too young and just sees presents.. I still stand by not imposing what you believe onto others, no matter what it is! If you believe Santas not true and want to tell your own kids that cool! But leave those who believe and want to keep that magic for their kids alone!

  • This Substitute Teacher was certainly on a Roll by telling all these children that Santa , The Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, does not exist..It tells me She obviously had a very Sad misfortunate Childhood herself as she must of been deprived of all of these wonderful childhood joys herself..Perhaps growing up she had to watch other lil girls and boys getting presents from Santa and nothing herself..So she must of felt she was naughty having listening to the Christmas carols and hearing, ‘ whose naughty and nice”..Kinda Sad..But a big Bully for destroying these children’s beliefs..

  • I think in this day and age many children even younger than 6 well and truly know that these stories are just that, stories, but they are quite happy to go along with the tale because in their minds if they don’t they won’t get a present, or money for their tooth or Easter eggs at Easter.

  • I’m glad the Principal has warned the parents so they can decide in advance how to cope with their most likely distraught children. What the parents tell them is their decision. Young children love fantasy. Some of them have been around for several generations. The tooth fairy is asked to pay too much these days. I heard of one child who knew he wasn’t real but told his parents he expected to be given more because of GST. Magic tricks give people of all ages a lot of enjoyment and happiness.

  • If that’s how she speaks to kids and what she chooses to tell them, then she is in the wrong profession. This is just nasty and horrible and I would be furious

  • I don’t think it should be up to a teacher to defuse when to crush the dream of Santa

  • I don’t think it is her place to tell the children the truth, if parents want to keep lying them let them, a teacher is there to teach them how to read and write not what to believe in, just like telling them Jesus did not exist.

  • This happened to me at school when I was the same age – my mother was extremely angry not just because it ruined my Christmas but because I had younger siblings and cousins and they were afraid I would tell them ( but I was good and didn’t)
It is absolutely NOT a teachers place to tell children this

  • Well she’ll never get work as a teacher again!

  • I want my kids to believe for as long as possible as childhood is over so very quickly.

  • Someone that can do that to kids and spoil the magic of Christmas really should not be a school teacher

  • It wasn’t her place to do that. Perhaps the ‘Grinch’ is real in her.

  • Really terrible what she did. I wonder if she was angry or something. What she did is really unkind!
My daughter doesn’t believe in Santa anymore. But she’s 17! 🙂

  • yep for sure.. he’s only 4 though… i’ll let him believe that until he comes and asks me.

  • I would have been outraged. It is not her place to decide to tell children these things, it is up to the parents!

  • But she’s wrong. Read The Tannenbaum Radical. It explains it all without the heartbreak!!
