Shopper was shocked to receive a very blunt email in response to her complaint about the lack of plus-size clothing in the store.

A Kmart shopper has shared her anger after receiving a rude email in response to her complaint about the lack of options for plus-sized women in the popular store.

The woman said she had contacted the retailer via their Facebook page to express her frustration only to receive an email from a Kmart employee saying that they ‘can’t cater for absolutely everyone.’

Constructive Feedback

The shopper’s initial post on the retail giant’s Facebook page highlighted the absence of plus-sized options in many sections of the store.

“You have no idea how hurtful this is. I struggle to find anything anywhere that fits me, I’m trying to find workout clothes and my whole section is gone,” she wrote.

“Fat people deserve better. I shouldn’t have to humiliate myself by asking a staff member where the fat section is only to be pointed to the wrong place anyway. I’m so disappointed. Step it up, please.”

The woman says that her frustration at the lack of customer service and lack of options for plus-sized women led to her deciding to make a complaint.

“It’s like your store wants fat people to feel ashamed, but I’m not ashamed. I’m just angry.”

An Unacceptable Response

The woman was shocked by the email she received from a Kmart employee in response to her email.

“Whilst we try to cater for as many people as possible, please understand that people come in all shapes and sizes and we can’t cater for absolutely everybody,” it read.

“It is not entirely our job to make you feel good about yourself.”

The disappointed shopper shared the response to Facebook calling out the store for the lack of professionalism.

“This is the response I get. Kmart needs to do f***ing better.”

Kmart apologised for her experience and the unacceptable response to her complaint.

“Thanks for sharing your experience at Kmart recently. At Kmart, it’s important to us that you leave our store feeling confident and happy. We’re sorry this wasn’t the case and we’d love to take any feedback on board as to how we can improve our plus-size range for you and other women in our stores.”

They also said they would be in contact with her via email to discuss the issue further.

Every woman, big or small, tall or short, has the right to be able to find clothing that they feel comfortable in and that flatters them, especially in a store like Kmart that prides itself on catering to all ages and budgets. It’s so disappointing that a young woman is forced to go public to get these big brands to take notice.

  • I think that this lady was a bit sensitive in this area and kmart could have had a more suitable initial response. the firs pic of the lady is stunning the next a bit odd

  • Companies should have professional business letters to respond to customer letters – it would seem in this instance maybe this process was not followed and the letter was not checked for content?
Customers have the right to write letters and to share their concerns and to expect a civil response in return.
Clothing stores should indeed cater for al sizes – little to large – in all different stores – low end to high end.
Change only occurs when customers do write letters – so good on her for being proactive and writing a letter.

    • Oops! should real all and not al in the comment above.

  • Clothing sizes and ranges differs at every store, it’s all depends on stock.

  • There are other stores you can shop in. Far out, get over it. If you don’t like having to go to the plus size section then maybe you need to work on that. It isn’t Kmarts fault that you are overweight/obese.

  • Why the hell would you post a photo of yourself with duck lips and groping your boob

  • Consistency in sizing in all shops. I can never tell what size I am and in most cases clothes are made smaller which diminishes my confidence dramatically.

  • I understand that they can’t stock clothes that are going fit everyone. But they sell a lot more than just clothes and if they want people to shop there they have to treat any potential customer like a valued human.

  • Very rude response to a reasonable comment. I’m glad they thought twice.

  • I find that the sizes need to be standard. At Best and Less I have dresses size 20 I brought a couple of years ago. These dresses are now very loose on me know, so thought buying more in the same size would be ok. The dresses are smaller and not as long. Though the same dress, they are made in different countries. I find the same at K mart with some of the clothing. Flannelette long sleeved shirts, mine are 2xl and loose, as they are wearing out tried replacing them with 4xl with those being tight fit. So how does something 2xl last year become a tight 4xl this year.

    • My husband use to bu 4xl tops and pants in kmart years ago now he has to go to special stores to buy 9xl which as the same size as the 4xl

  • Clothing differs so much between store to store it’s impossible just to say ‘I am a size 12 etc’ In some brands I am a 10 or 12, but in others I am a 14-16. Its ridiculous. She should not have been made to feel like that and I feel the response was very rude!

  • I know I’ve been into a few clothes shops with my daughter when she was a teenager. She was a size 10/12, tall and slim. Yet some stores cater for the super skinny and quite often we couldn’t find clothes to fit my daughter. I was quite angry about that as my daughter was average size yet the clothes were too small for her, not a good message to be sending teenage girls
