BLACK ICE

By Becca Fitzpatrick

The Young Adult sensation Becca Fitzpatrick, author of the best-selling Hush Hush saga, is back with a new novel!  Black Ice, a riveting stand –alone romantic thriller set against the treacherous backdrop of the mountains of Wyoming.

Britt Pfeiffer has never been that adventurous, but that’s about to change. Wanting to impress her ex-boyfriend, Britt convinces best friend, Korbie, to take a trekking trip with her. But when a freak storm leaves the girls stranded they seek shelter in a cabin, where they find two knights in shining armour. Or so they think.

Britt quickly realises that the girls need to get off the mountain, fast. In exchange for her life, she is forced to guide the boys down, and as they set out on a harrowing journey through the cold and snow, Britt realises the only way to escape with her life is to pretend she is on their side. But is gorgeous, sexy Mason an enemy or an ally? Tension mounts, and it’s only a matter of time before things turn deadly . . .

  • Hopeless romantic.???

Ok, I have passed this book around to my mum & now my sister, mum & haven’t stopped talking about it, her words “out of all the draw dropping, cold & cringing books I have read, this one would by far be the best. Why haven’t I seen her books around”
So we jumped on Google & ordered “hush, hush” this lady is very talented & I thank mouth of mums for showing my whole family a new path to sexy thrillers..
    Pure genius.

  • Enjoyable and exciting, edge of your seat romantic thriller

In a diversion from the fantasy world we have grown to love from the Hush, Hush series, Black Ice shifts between romantic novel and thriller as the main character Britt experiences a full range of emotions from feelings of love to white knuckle terror. A hiking trip turned sour when a blizzard forces Britt and her friend Korbie to seek refuge in a cabin where they find a couple of very handsome young men who take them captive and force Britt at gun point to act as their guide and help them escape from the mountain. Her captures alternate between hero and villain as they fight together to survive the dangers of the mountain and Britt’s heart and mind are in constant conflict about which way she should run. An enjoyable and exciting read.

  • Final Review: Great book

I had high expectations for this novel, seeing as I’ve read Becca Fitzpatrick’s other books and LOVED THEM. I’m happy to say that i wasn’t disappointed. Like i said in my initial review, i didn’t really like the characters at the beginning, but that all changed as i got more engrossed in Britt’s world. It was definitely a suspenseful book, full of lots of twists and turns. And even though the plot was fairly easy to predict, i still found myself being surprised. Definitely worth the read!

  • Final review: wish the book didn't end!

Reading the blurb of Black Ice I must admit had me feeling a bit hesitant. You see it wasn’t a book I would usually choose to read. So I sat down with a coffee and thought I would give it a go, you know read a couple of chapters and see if I could get into it. I didn’t hold high hopes unfortunately!

Two hours later, I was shocked – my coffee was long cold, and I was half way through the book! I could not put it down!

The twists and turns of the storyline had me on the edge of my seat- holding my breath waiting to find out what happened next! Needless to say in less than four hours, the book was finished! I was shattered to be completely honest! The story has it all – drama, romance, fear, shocks – you name it!

Becca Fitzpatrick has written an amazing novel. Black Ice is a book I would recommend to any young adult, even older adults too! The only downside of this book is that it had to end!

  • Full of suspense til the very end!

I found the first couple of chapters quite hard to get into, felt it was a little disjointed, but was soon drawn into the suspense and mystery of Britt’s Story, and couldn’t put it down. I guessed the twist half way through, but still couldn’t wait to get to the end to find out how Britt’s story ended. Recommended, and have already passed on to a friend!

  • great read

Not usually the kind of book I read, but I was very suprised by how interesting I found it. I didn’t find it too overly cliche and was well written. The characters I found very easy to relate to and she does make you feel intrigued by “ace” even though he is seen at the start as a villain. However I did not like the ending it was ebrupt and didn’t really deal with the issues that I felt should have been discussed it just jumped forward to give the happy love story ending..

I will be looking at reading more from her other series though.

  • Wow. What a way to start!

Wow. The author just grabs you from the beginning. You instantly have a relationship with the characters. The humour in the first chapter after the “April” prelude is great. My initial reaction to this book, in the first 2 chapters, is that I don’t want to put it down and I’m in for an excellent read. Full review to come.

  • A book I had trouble putting down!

Well I suffered last week from tiredness, as this book was difficult to put down once I started reading. I wanted to see how the story would unfold, and had to force myself to turn the light off at night. I was happy with how it ended. It was an easy read, that had some good twists and turns. I have not read a book in a while, as I have a very busy lifestyle and young family, but I managed to finish this one in a week. It was worth reading!

  • Captivating story with unexpected twists

The opening pages were haunting and I couldn’t wait to find out what happened to the girl. The way the story progressed and the characters developed kept me enthralled. I loved the unexpected moments that just kept me turning pages for more!

  • Just loved it

I have read other books by Becca Fitzpatrick and found ‘Black Ice’ to exceed my expectations. Whilst I loved her previous books, I just could not put ‘Black Ice’ down. From the moment I started reading it, I was enthralled. The story line was basic in its design but the characters were very well developed and I found myself constantly guessing about what would happen in the end. The plot was easy to follow whilst still adding in twists turns that had you on the edge of your seat. I have a very busy lifestyle, as with most people these days, but still managed to read this book in a week as I was constantly picking it up whenever I had the chance. I was sad to see the story end and wished that it had been drawn out a little bit longer.

  • An enjoyable and engrossing read: two thumbs up!

Following on from my initial review: Whilst I was able to generally predict how the story was going to progress (including the twist that was mentioned in the blurb on the back of the book), I still found this to be an engaging and satisfying read, and am glad to have read it. This is a book that I would happily recommend to any young adult. Aside from being a pleasantly diverting read, hopefully it will also serve as a cautionary tale to young readers that you don’t always know people as well as you think you do, and that the best person you have to rely on is yourself.

  • BRILLIANT. A MASTERPIECE DESENDED FROM THE SKY.

Ok, I could not put this book down even if I wanted to…
After reading the chapter \”APRIL\” I was fast tracked to one year later.
I 100% was not a fan. I felt lost, looked back at the names on the first section…
It was Lauren by the way. Then I said to myself… \”Get it together Bonnie-Lee\”
After making my way vastly I found that I was half way threw, trying to cling onto the book as I was Britt & this is happening to me, the thought of having my own Mason/Jude would be jerking my chain too.
Try & feel as this is you…
You\’re drenched completely from head to toe,
can\’t see one step in front of you but You\’re getting nudged from Shaun.
You feel drawn to the guy who took you hostage like a twisted love story,
But dont fall asleep the snow will take your life while you do.
The best friend Is a snobby brat & you don\’t like conflict.
Your dad, brother (Ian) & ex boyfriend, Calvin. do everything for you.
Now shift my way & feel the man who abducted you, loved you.
    That his lips endured you.
The people you thought you knew shut you out & believe it or not, the one man you have loved your whole life….
    Turns on even you.
After the darkness comes the light….

Black ice is a seat propping, tear jerking book.
I couldn\’t put it down till if finished it.
Instead of a book getting to the \”story\” this one jumped left but the went right in a short moment.
    Think last second.!
Highly recommended this book to all my friends & family.
If you\’d like a book to wake you up from your dream,
This one is for you. 😉

  • Interesting so far...

FIRST IMPRESSION: Okay so I am 5 chapters in and this is my first impressions of the book. The beginning of Black Ice was very intriguing. I felt myself being drawn into the story. Then we were fast-forwarded a year into the future, which was quite disorientating. I didn’t catch on that Britt (the main character) wasn’t the same girl from the first chapter! The story so far is that Britt and her bestfriend Korbie, are going backpacking for Spring Break at Korbie’s family cabin up in the mountains. Korbie’s ‘boyfriend?’ Bear is coming and also her older brother Calvin, who is Britt’s ex-boyfriend, as a chaperone. Britt meets a guy named Mason at the gas station, who pretends to be her boyfriend in order to save her from getting caught out in a lie she told Calvin. When Britt and Korbie start driving up to the cabin, weather gets bad and they become stranded. They go looking for help and stubble upon a cabin inhibited by Mason and his friend Shaun. My impressions of Britt at the moment is that she is quite annoying. I don’t really like her character that much. She seems very petty and lacking any real depth. The same goes for her best friend Korbie. Korbie is spoilt and a little snobby. She’s also quite flirtatious, which confuses me because she seems to be seeing a guy named Bear. Calvin seems like a complete douchebag, seeing as he dumped Britt over the phone, on her Homecoming night, while he was getting drunk at a bar! When he see’s Britt for the first time after the breakup, he doesn’t say sorry or seem like he’s all that fazed about their previous history. Both Mason and Shaun seem a bit dodgy and I have a feeling nothing good is going to come out of the girls staying at their cabin! So far I’m interested and hoping that things will get more entertaining soon!

  • First impression - so far so good!

Received this book at the best time, on bed rest due to a nasty virus! First impression is a very well written opening, tad confusing with the switch between characters but the more I read the more intrigued I was.

Have been reading for over two hours – definately a book I do not want to put down!

  • It's intriguing

Just started to read I’m up to chapter 5 seem good book . It’s written well I like the cover. So far I’m intrigued about Manson and think his friends the guy that took girl in first part of book. So far it’s good and kept my attention

  • Initial Review: So far so good!

This book starts on a sinister note, which lingers in the back of the mind as the reader flashes forward a year and is introduced to Britt. Britt is portrayed as a somewhat spoilt, self centred and, dare I say it?, immature teenager, who decides to go hiking with her best friend Korbie (who doesn’t seem to be much better). It would be easy to write Britt off as an entirely unlikeable person, however there are hints of substance in her character (I can’t think of many teens who would devote a year of their lives in training for hiking) which I hope to see develop as the story progresses.

The scene is all set for misfortunes of a darker nature (without giving anything away, it seems pretty obvious what the girls will be up against) befalling the girls, and I have high hopes of seeing Britt overcome her flaws to tackle the predicted challenges ahead.

  • It's a good read for yound adults

I have started reading the book with a mixed feelings, as the first few chapters were sort of all over the place. It started as an old criminal novel. Then there was a twist to another teenage book, and back to suspense. Reading the book was a pleasure, as it is a well written and easy flowing language was used, so a teenager would be enthralled to read. I have given it to my teenage daughter to read, too.

Whether you’re a seasoned or first-time mum, protecting your baby’s delicate skin is right up there on the priorities list. Because when their skin is irritation-free, it really does make for a happier bub! Anyone who’s had to deal with nappy rash (me included!) knows it’s an inescapable mum truth.

Having skin irritation as an adult is super distracting and annoying. So just imagine what that’s like for our teeny babies and toddlers, who need to focus on sleep, eat and play. No wonder they can be so upset when they have nappy rash.

One thing you do need to ditch when it comes to nappy rash is mum guilt. It happens despite our best efforts. But it is helpful if you can get ahead of the game by doing as much as you can to try and prevent nappy rash in the first place.

We asked our hundreds of thousands of Mouths of Mums members for their tried-and-true, trusted nappy rash tips, and their responses came down to four key tips. So if you’re about to have your first baby, or your fifth, it’s worth popping on the kettle and reading through what’s helped other mums.

Fail-Safe Nappy Rash Tips From Mums

What we love about these tips is they’re perfect for mums and expecting mums, and they’re really simple to do. Everything from what to use and what to steer clear of, to helpful hints on caring for delicate baby skin.

1. Nappy Free Time

“As much free nappy time as possible. Lay baby on a blanket covered with a towel on the floor, without a nappy on, if possible in front of a warm sunny window.” – Joanne W.

We love nappy free time for newborn and toddlers (although it’s a lot harder to get them to stay in one place!). And while nappy free time is one of the most popular nappy rash tips among our mums, using the right nappy also plays a huge part in protecting against irritation on your baby’s skin. For example, Huggies Ultra Dry Nappy Pants have clever Rapid-Dry™ Technology, which instantly absorbs for drier skin. And they’re perfect for day and night, with up to 12 hours of leakage protection.

2. Change Nappies Frequently

“For me, what worked on my two kids is not leaving them in soiled nappies too long. I definitely changed as soon as they were wet and let their skin air dry before placing a new nappy on. I would rather go through more nappies than have to deal with the uncomfortable rash they would feel.” – MoM Member

Frequent nappy changes are a fail-safe way to keep moisture, but it’s not always practical (babies just love to fill their nappies while you’re out and about!) Huggies Newborn Nappies are designed to help protect a baby’s delicate skin with a zinc-enriched layer*, clinically proven to help protect against skin irritation.

3. Use A Barrier Cream

“My mum put me onto Zinc and Caster Oil cream. It is FABULOUS stuff! It’s very thick and sticks like you know what to a blanket hehe I tried literally everything and this was the only stuff that helped.” – Trudes

Using a barrier cream was another really popular tip from our mums. But did you know that Huggies Newborn Nappies are the only nappy with a zinc enriched layer. The zinc oxide in Huggies Newborn Nappies is the same ingredient found in many nappy rash creams, which helps to protect against irritation with visibly less redness on skin. They’re also endorsed by the Australian College of Midwives and the number one choice in Australian hospitals.

4. Choose Gentle

“Don’t use scented wipes. Flannel and warm water is the best.” – Justine F

Using the most natural product possible for wiping a baby’s delicate skin to prevent irritation is a tip that’s been passed down from generation to generation – and it’s still a great one. But something lots of mums don’t consider that a nappy itself can help protect against skin irritation. Huggies Newborn Nappies are clinically proven* to help protect against skin irritation while Huggies Ultra Dry Nappy Pants keep up with wriggly little ones while providing superior dryness, making them perfect for active toddlers.

Nappy Rash Myths & Facts

🚫 Myth: Nappy rash is only caused by wet nappies.
✅ Fact: It’s true that moisture does play a role in nappy rash, it can also be caused by moisture friction, bacteria, and even what the nappy is made from.

It’s why choosing a nappy that’s specifically designed for skin protection is really important.

🚫 Myth: Cloth nappies are better at preventing nappy rash than disposable nappies.
✅ Fact: When it comes to nappy rash, there’s not really any need to compare cloth and disposable nappies, because it’s all about keeping baby dry. The longer baby can stay dry, the better.

Huggies’ Rapid-Dry™ Technology absorbs wetness instantly, reducing irritation risk.

🚫 Myth: Nappy rash creams are the only way to protect against irritation.
✅ Fact: A good nappy with a zinc enriched layer can also help to protect against irritation.
