We are so excited to announce the MathsOnline review!
For the MathsOnline review, we’re asking MoM Members all over Australia to trial MathsOnline with their child or children and then share their thoughts and opinions with us.
MathsOnline makes learning maths easy and simple!
As Australia’s #1 online maths tutoring program for kids of all ages, MathsOnline makes learning maths easy and simple.
Each one of the video tutorials is taught by the internationally acclaimed teacher, Pat Murray, who is renowned for teaching math concepts in a simple, easy-to-understand way (and in only a few minutes at a time).
Even students who struggled with maths are getting fantastic results! And ones who were doing OK before are now doing brilliantly.
After twenty-four years of teaching, Pat Murray had seen too many students lose the battle against maths. So, he set out to help them. What he came up with was MathsOnline. Now, Pat’s programs are in the curriculums of more than 720 schools across Australia, and MathsOnline has helped countless students rise to the top of their class.
Students can practice what they learned as the adaptive program introduces progressively harder quizzes and worksheets.
Detailed solutions show step-by-step how to solve each problem; this way, students can see their mistakes and understand what needs to happen next time. Results and progress are saved and made available for parents, so they can check-in and see how their children are doing. They also receive weekly progress reports to monitor improvement over time.
Here’s how the MathsOnline Review will work …
In the MathsOnline Review, MoM Members with school-aged children from K-12 will trial and review. MathsOnline can be used for up to 3 of your school-aged children at any given time.
STEP 1: Lucky MoM Members who have school children from K-12 selected for this review will sign up for the MathsOnline 8-week trial using a unique code supplied by us and the team at MathsOnline.
STEP 2: MoM Members and up to 3 of their children will trial and review MathsOnline for the 8 week trial period which will take us through towards the end of Term 1 2021.
STEP 3: Throughout the trial we’ll ask MoM Members on the trial team to report in with reviews and ratings.
This review is open to thousands of MoM Members and their friends but everyone must apply via this page to receive the 8 week trial code. SHARE THIS PAGE with everyone you know who have children in K – 12 who’d like to test and review MathsOnline!
My 6 yr old loves Maths Online. The website is easy to use and follow and she loves that it can read things out to her if she's unsure. It takes her through the problem and solution and key points to look for which really helps her to understand and work through. She finds joy in doing maths now! I love it as I can leave her to do it on her own and get on with other things around the house! Win Win!

My twin daughters are really enjoying MathsOnline. The eldest of the twins has a hard time getting the right answers but she is determined and goes back to the video to watch so she can remember and does the questions again, the ones she got wrong and tries to get them right.
She went from a 72% Bronze Certificate to a 77% Silver Certificate in whole numbers for year 4. Very impressive I think.
It refreshes what you have learnt at school and teaches you new ways to understand maths.
For myself as a mother I think it’s a really neat way to engage children into fun and enjoyable learning.
I have already told my friends and family about MathsOnline and can’t wait for them to try it out with their kids too!

My twin daughters throughly enjoyed it. It took them a little while to start the program but when they did every afternoon after school they want to go back online to tutor again. They are in year 3 and one of them struggles with maths but she’s liking the fact that there is a video to teaches you and explains what to do. And you can always go back to the video if you have forgotten what to do too.
I definitely recommending MathsOnline tutoring because it helps my children understand Maths more than they did before.

We absolutely love maths online in our house. It’s so simple to navigate through and little Miss loves the sound button, so when she gets stuck reading a word, the button will read the question for her. It makes maths fun!!! So sorry for the late review. We had iPad trouble and had to wait for lockdown to finish so we could get it fixed and download Maths on Line. Super pleased we were able to try it. My kids are big fans.

My daughter was lucky enough to try the free 8 week subscription of MathsOnline. She has a good grasp of Maths but does get a little worked up with tricky maths problems. (She would get a little upset and not want to try and work it out, if it was a hard question).
With MathsOnline you watch a quick few minutes tutorial that takes you through what you need to know. First they show you an easy problem and the solution, then they will show you a slightly harder one (and tell you what to look out for) and then they will show you the trickiest one showing you what you need to do and what to watch out for when solving these type of tricky maths problems .
It makes it sound so easy and gives the child more confidence as they already know how to work out answers to the trickier questions. They watch the tutorial (learn how to solve the problems) then they answer the selection of questions to ensure they know how to apply what they have just learnt.
I think it's great for all children (and maybe their parents, lol) as it helps them understand how to handle each type of Maths problem, especially tricky ones, for their year level. You select which year level (eg grade 1) and then you just watch the tutorial then answer the questions and then go on to the next tutorial. There is also a revision test they can do each week or so, to see if they remember what they have learnt. I would highly recommend MathsOnline for all students.

My kids are back at school now and it's good to revise and remember how to complete their math's work. My eldest daughter has been busy with her math's online and she finds it fun and easy to do where as my twin daughter have more of a difficult time with their math's so this will help them a lot this term.
I like it how they can work at their own pace and go back to the video tutorial if they get stuck with a question.

Sorry take two, something happened which made my review post before I was finished lol.
After one go with mathsonline we have a fan in the house. It’s quite simple to navigate and you can set the questions up so your child can have another try if they get it wrong the first time. You can choose which area of math you would like to start with eg, numeracy, decimals, addition etc.
The function I like the most though is, if they are having trouble reading the question, there is a little speaker button which will read the question to them.
It's a great resource to have for just that little extra help when they need to, or to help them catch up if they start falling behind, without it feeling like homework or a chore. It's fun for them. It also keeps track of their progress and shows you where they are having difficulties so you can focus more on that one area

Thank you thank you to maths online. I have tried many maths programs in the past such as 'Mathletics,' Mathspace and IXL but none compare to maths online. This online tutoring has helped me tremendously. I have been a maths online member for 2 years, when I do not understand something at school I simply go onto maths online and I understand it. I am in high school but would recommend to any age group. The videos are amazing and so straight forward and easy to understand. 100% recommend, it will change your perspective on maths!

this app made my child get very mad at it. one of the reasons is because when you get one question wrong, it just tells you the answer, not how to work it out. it also takes a large amount of your score away even if you have gotten 100% so far. this has made my child very stressed and upset. it also makes my son's friend kind of mad because it gives him the hardest questions, but he misses one small detail and he's lost at least 15% off his score. very unhappy with this program.

I am home schooling me niece and she is about two years behind in mathematics compared to her age. Trying to find out her level was difficult until I found maths online. I was able to get samples from different year levels to use to test her knowledge and find where she has missed out so I can work on catching her up. Without mathsonline I do not think I would have the chance that I do now to to make sure that she can catch up. It has the answer sheets so there is no way that the parents can mark them as correct if they are incorrect. It is a great system to use for tutoring and for homeschooling.

I wrote a review weeks ago when we received access to the Maths Platform. I was excited for my daughter who is only 7 years old. At first, and that’s why my first review isn’t so great, i found it confusing to use, too many different sections, overwhelming almost. After now 6 weeks, we totally love it. My daughter now can use this program on her own without me sitting next to her all the time. She works independently which is such a huge thing at this age. They like to be control and have a feeling of accomplishment. So, I have come to the conclusion that this program is suitable for learners that need a little help or even just to polish of their skills. It takes a while to get the hang of this program but after a while it becomes more user friendly. Thank you for the opportunity to try this program. My child is always happy to practice her Maths now, especially because its on the Laptop and not on paper.

After using this program for a month i can say that I am very happy about it. My son is 4.5 and trying to do some kindergarten lessons. I even surprised what it can be expect on his level-some of the things I wasn't even thinking about explaining to him as I thought its more in advance but after short narrative lesson he picked things up. What I like the most - lessons are quite short and not boring. I wish question part where more interactive especially for small kids. Overally I am very happy with this and will recommend to others

For a chance of trying this program. MATHS ONLINE is quite easy to navigate and operate even for my 4.5yO. you can choose what level and which task to do. Lessons are short - but quite clear . After it you have few questions to check if you can do it by yourself.
Kindergarten lessons are easy but not sure if he will be able to do it without any proper preparation like knowing his numbers and basic reading to do his tasks.
I would prefer that to domon app rather on website as the picture is just jumping up and down when moving.
Overly I am happy with this program.

Grandson is enjoying maths online -Big thumbs up from a retired teacher!
I take my grandson twice a week after school and we've just started this week I think we are going to really enjoy doing the maths online together. As a former primary school teacher I can really see the benefits of this program. My grandson is in kindy loves maths and he's actually extended in maths to the year above so we can really do something he enjoys together and extend him beyond the classroom!

I really loved the simplicity of this program - it was really easy to follow and I loved the time we spent together each evening completing the modules. I personally hate maths and find it really boring (I know I shouldn't say it, but it's true!), so I loved that this program made it easy for both of us. As he's young and still learning to read, the speaker button is a great function, and he really enjoys the quizzes.... it feels like a game to him. As a bonus, as it's on a screen, it's counted as his daily 'screen time', so it's win win and I don't feel guilty when I leave him on it to tend his baby sister and dinner.

‘Trust Your Intuition’: How To Advocate For Your Child In Hospital
Mother’s instinct is a funny thing. At home, we trust it without question. But put us in a hospital setting with an unwell child, surrounded by doctors, nurses and monitors, and suddenly we start doubting ourselves.
What if I’m overreacting? What if I’ve got it wrong?
So we stay quiet, even when we know something just isn’t right with our child. I’ve been there myself – when my usually ‘tough’ son was doubled over with stomach pain. I was told in the emergency department that it probably wasn’t his appendix. But I knew he wouldn’t have begged me to take him to hospital unless it was serious. Because I know him better than anyone. Turns out, it was appendicitis.
It’s a really common place for parents to land. You’re grateful for the care your child is getting, but at the same time, you feel this huge responsibility to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.
Here’s the thing though: that instinct you’re feeling? It matters more than you might think.
Why your gut feeling matters more than you realise
According to Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital, Leticia Jackson, parents bring something to the hospital that no test or machine ever could.
“Parents often say they ‘just know’ when something isn’t quite right with their child, and in a hospital, that gut feeling is incredibly valuable,” she explains.
Leticia Jackson, Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital
While medical teams rely on observations, tests and equipment, parents know the little details. The way your child usually smiles. How they react when they’re tired. What’s normal for them.
So when something feels “off”, even if everything looks okay on paper, it can actually be an early warning sign.
“When parents trust those instincts and speak up, this creates a powerful partnership that can sometimes catch a problem before it becomes an emergency,” Leticia says.
Worried about speaking up? You’re not alone
A lot of parents hesitate about advocating for their child.
You don’t want to come across as difficult. You don’t want to question the people caring for your child. And sometimes, you just don’t feel confident enough to push the issue.
Leticia gets it.
“It is completely understandable for parents to feel hesitant,” she says. “No one wants to be seen as difficult or to second-guess the hardworking people caring for their child.”
But here’s a helpful way to look at it: you’re not challenging the medical team, you’re helping them.
Parents are the constant. Staff change shifts, care for multiple patients, and rely on snapshots of information. You’re there the whole time, noticing the subtle changes.
“Our medical team doesn’t view a concerned parent as overreactive, but as a partner,” Leticia explains. “Your voice matters.”
Remember, we know our children better than anyone.
What to do if you’re worried: the Raise It process
If you’re in a NSW public hospital or health service and you’re worried about you or your child’s condition getting worse, there is a clear process you can follow called Raise It.
Raise It is designed to help patients, carers and family members get help fast if they’re worried about a change in their loved one’s condition.
Here’s how it works:
Talk: Start by speaking to a nurse, midwife, doctor or health worker about your concerns.
Ask: Still worried? Ask to speak to the nurse or midwife in charge and request a Clinical Review.
Call: If you’re still concerned, you can escalate further using the Raise It process to get urgent attention from a senior health worker.
You don’t need medical knowledge. You don’t need to be certain. If you feel something isn’t right, or your child is getting worse, Raise It. You just need to speak up.
What should you actually look out for?
Sometimes it’s not one big, obvious sign. It can be small, subtle changes that just don’t sit right.
Things like:
Changes in breathing (fast, laboured or noisy)
Skin looking pale, mottled, or developing unusual rashes
Your child being unusually drowsy, floppy, or hard to wake
Confusion or behaviour that’s out of character
Pain that isn’t improving with treatment
Or simply that feeling that your child is getting worse
And sometimes, it’s just that gut feeling you can’t explain.
That’s enough.
“You are helping us, not bothering us”
If there’s one message Leticia wants parents to take away, it’s that you aren’t bothering the medical team, you’re helping them.
“In my years as a Nurse Unit Manager, I can say with absolute certainty that many critical changes in a child’s condition have been identified first by a parent. While our clinical staff are highly skilled at performing regular observations and interpreting data, parents are the only constant presence who truly know their child’s baseline behaviour, personality, and what is normal for them.
“I have seen numerous instances where a parent’s insistence that their child is “just not themselves” – despite vital signs appearing relatively stable – has prompted a deeper clinical review that uncovered everything from early signs of sepsis to a life-threatening respiratory crisis.”
The Raise It process exists because healthcare teams know how important parents are in keeping children safe.
“Speaking up doesn’t mean you don’t trust the team,” she says. “It means you’re partnering with us to make sure nothing gets missed.”
And if you’re still worried about being judged?
“Whether your concern turns out to be something or nothing, your instinct to raise it is always valid.”
You should never second guess yourself when it comes to yours or your childs health- or anyones for that matter. Go with your thoughts. It is natural to want to protect a loved one especially when it comes to health situations, and the feeling you get when you think you didnt do enough to advocate or fight for them…it is not a kind or nice way to feel. Many people have ended up being heartbroken and picking up pieces for years because of feeling they didnt do enough.
A very good and informative article. I have read so many stories about mums just knowing when things are not right and demanding second and third opinions until they got the right answer. Sometimes mums just know. It is our job as care takers of our families. Listen to your gut!
Years ago, I spoke up for my 14-year-old daughter, but my concerns weren’t fully listened to. I’ve always wished I had pushed harder. She was sent home without much testing, and two days later, she passed away.
So, if you ever have concerns—no matter how minor—please speak up and keep advocating. Trust your instincts; they are there for a reason.
This is so important for parents to know how to raise it further if they don’t think their child is receiving the medical support they need! I know this article refers to the NSW system but other systems have similar procedures just with different names. I know in QLD it’s called Ryan’s Rule.
It’s so important to follow your gut instincts and express your concerns indeed. I have never hesitated to advocate for my children in various situations and I don’t care what other people think about it. Not all doctors and medical staff appreciate it when you question them, I’ve experienced that it may result in angry indignant responses.
How true this is! While nurses and doctors are the medical professionals doing their job on the daily, we know our children better than anyone and what is ‘normal’ for them. I would always speak up if I had noticed any changes in my child’s health and encourage other parents to do so too. No question is silly!
This really is such an important issue and a good topic to discuss with people, I am often surprised that people are worried about being judged. This is not something I care about; the priority is for the care and health of everyone is my family. Parents know their children and need to work with health professionals for the best outcomes for their children.
This is such an important issue to raise, and no one should ever feel ashamed, nervous or that they are being OTT for advocating for their kids, themselves or loves ones in hospital. In QLD we have Ryan’s Rule. A three step process where your concern will be escalated if they believe the patients condition isn’t improving or is worsening.
I have never been afraid to advocate for my children and partner and extended family and also friends. It is so important to listen and to trust intuition. When people have not listened, I have persevered and kept on with insisting on care and making sure they truly listened and took action.
