I purchased some Melissa and Doug puzzles for my 4 year old from Ozsale. I needed some puzzles for her that were a bit higher in difficulty and I wanted some that were wooden so they would last and not get bent (or chewed up by the baby)
I have used Ozsale before, and when I purchased these puzzles from them they did take awhile to receive (about 3.5 weeks) but I have since purchased from Ozsale and their shipping speed has greatly improved.
Melissa and Doug have fabulous quality items, my daughter also received a magnetic dress up doll for her birthday - it is one of her most played with presents.
After seeing this product, and reading the reviews, as an Early Years teacher I just knew I had to try it out. I love the stamps, the designs are just adorable, and can be used to tell stories, make designs, learn about mirror imaging and colour- so versatile in Kindergarten classrooms, as well as in the home. Any product that has an intrinsic 'pull' like this is going to foster creativity in children.
After purchasing a set of these stamps for my kindergarten kids, they were such a hit that i decided to buy them for my 8 year old niece. She also absolutely loved them. They are so simple to use, both pre-school and older children can use them. Easy to setup and clean which is important for busy households. Definitely recommend them as the perfect gift!
Whilst I didn't get selected I am aware of Melissa & Doug products & they are of good quality & great for young minds. I would highly recommend their products & am actually going to buy this for my nephew. Great products that you can trust :)
My kids are still pllaying with these stamps and living it the colour them in and even play which animal am I by sticking the pictures to there forehead and asking questions so much fun fir them and for us to watch! Lol love the product my only complaint is it really needs a lid for easy storage.
very appealing to children's eyes and mine loved it
I loved this product it was appealing to all three of my kids wich is hard as they are boy 8 girl7 and boy 3 so this was fabulous to get them all to play together and have fin at the same time would definitely recommend it to other people
i am vwry proud that i got to review this my kiddies had such a ball playing with the stamps & they lovedthe animal stamps they were easy to use & the ink dried pritty quickly as well so the kids could colour in the stamps the kids loved that they could colour in the stamps any colour they wanted to. we had a friends daughter over playing with them as well & she asked her mum to go buy some
I did not get selected for this review, but have since purchased this product for my kinder kids - they love it!! So easy to use, simple to clean up and the children LOVED making lots of different pictures. Best thing is, it was great for both the boys and the girls. Would highly recommend the Melissa and Doug stamp range for anyone with young children - they have a fabulous range too! :-)
Got our stamps out a few times this weekend, being wet horrible weather I was looking for inside activities.
Couldn't believe my 2 yr old son played with them for over half an hr, he is normally on the go all the time and doesn't spend long at an activity but he's really enjoying these stamps and naming all the different animals and asking about them all.and my 4 year old was grouping them into zoo animals and farm animals really great for both their ages!
I did not get excepted for this review. But went out and purchased two Melissa & Doug stamp sets for my niece and nephew. They both had a ball playing with there sets. Just the right size for young hands to use. So easy to store and put away. The non toxic washable stamp pad made clean up a breeze.
I find Melissa & Doug toys to be of very high quality, and definitely worth the investment. My daughter used this stamp set at a friends house last week and it kept the two kids amused for ages. It has stood the test of time, and isn't flimsy like some other brands. We own several other Melissa & Doug toys, and have never been disappointed by their quality or design.
I can't currently see this item for sale through OZSALE, but I have bought other items through them. Hassle-free transactions, easy delivery, and great bargain prices. Certainly worth a search on their site to see what their current sales are, and I'm hoping they will stock this brand on sale again soon.
Melissa and Doug products great educational products
My niece and grandchildren love Melissa and Doug products and so do I, they seem to be an old fashioned toy that requires imagination, they are well made and economically priced. They are a toy that is enjoyable to spend time with your children and I keep some puzzles aside for those days when we have horrid weather as time flies when playing with these and it is refreshing to see children playing with something that does not have a screen attached. love these toys and should be more of them.
My mum introduced me to Melissa and Doug products. I love their durability and the fact that they are wooden toys. My little girls first puzzle was a Melissa and Doug farm puzzle and zoo puzzle. Even now, at 3, she will still happily sit down and play with her Melissa and Doug products.
They are long lasting...most things are getting handed down to her little brother now.
this is wonderful I adore my sons. We have so much fun together learning and playing as well as being educational. I love how it reminds me of my child hood it has the element of the past and it's not all about technology like most things these days. I was happy with the price and we have had more than enough use for this item. My family and I highly recommend this product. It a trip down mementos lane as well as being fun educational and crafty. Enjoy and have fun with it
We bought a Melissa and Doug stamp set awhile ago - the vehicles one and my boys love it. I find that M & D products are so well made. We have a puzzle as well which is such thick wood and also a car carrier which is fantastic. The stamp set is so easy for little ones to use and keeps them occupied for ages. Keep an eye on them though as my two have been known to stamp everything!
I have purchased a few melissa and doug proudcts now and have been more than happy with each purchase. I love the way that their products are basic stationary items but they look classy . I have also purchased from oz sales trusted website. The delivery of items i purchased was quick and and I once had a problem that was solved with no worries or questions. very impressed.
I have seen these sets on the ozsale site and everyday rewards/ Qantas frequent flyer store for ages and wondered if they were any good. Thank you for all the feedback!!
This is a great activity for kids, my daughter loved it, except the stamp pad only lasted a day :-( not great. So ended up having to spend more going and getting another ink pad.
My 2 year old son loves this. He's into stamps and I love how easy it is for him to use while I watch over him. The ink takes a little scrubbing to get off but other than that, it's very good. I bought a couple of them to put away as gifts for other kids too
Ozsale is an awesome website & Melissa & Doug make some really good stuff
Ozsale have some really good deals and good brands / products. Melissa & Doug make some really good stuff, my son has a few of their wooden toys and puzzles. They have lasted the longest out of most toys
Quality and colourful product for chidlren to play with
I love wooden durable toys for kiddies which take things back to the old school, before computer screens, its interactive craft and art that you are more likely to hang on the wall and show pride in your children and aids building a positive relationship.
I often buy things from Ozsale as they genuinely offer discounts for top quality items. Melissa & Doug are synonymous with high quality products, but are often out of my price range for presents etc., so this is a match made in heaven. My only criticism is for Ozsale (and to be fair, they state this clearly on their website); once you order from them, it often takes more than 3 weeks for your order to arrive. If you have an upcoming party or event that you are buying something for, make sure it is MORE than a month in advance. Organisation is the key.
I have bought and received numerous Melissa and Doug products over the years and i have never been disappointed. The only thing which is a shame is that we don't have more of the products available here in Australia. Although a bit dearer than other toys you really get what you pay for.
Melissa & Doug products always keep the kids entertained
Every time I purchase a Melissa & Doug product whether for my own kids or as a gift I am amazed at how much the kids love the product. It is always the highest quality and beautifully presented. We have accumulated numerous Melissa & Doug products over the years and we will continue to do so.
I have purchased Melissa & Doug products from Ozsale for my grandkids & have found they help develop their learning skills early & there is something special about wooden toys for any child. I always keep an eye out for them online so I can have a few surprises on hand for our little visitors!
I purchased some Melissa and Doug puzzles for my 4 year old from Ozsale. I needed some puzzles for her that were a bit higher in difficulty and I wanted some that were wooden so they would last and not get bent (or chewed up by the baby)

‘Trust Your Intuition’: How To Advocate For Your Child In Hospital
Mother’s instinct is a funny thing. At home, we trust it without question. But put us in a hospital setting with an unwell child, surrounded by doctors, nurses and monitors, and suddenly we start doubting ourselves.
What if I’m overreacting? What if I’ve got it wrong?
So we stay quiet, even when we know something just isn’t right with our child. I’ve been there myself – when my usually ‘tough’ son was doubled over with stomach pain. I was told in the emergency department that it probably wasn’t his appendix. But I knew he wouldn’t have begged me to take him to hospital unless it was serious. Because I know him better than anyone. Turns out, it was appendicitis.
It’s a really common place for parents to land. You’re grateful for the care your child is getting, but at the same time, you feel this huge responsibility to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.
Here’s the thing though: that instinct you’re feeling? It matters more than you might think.
Why your gut feeling matters more than you realise
According to Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital, Leticia Jackson, parents bring something to the hospital that no test or machine ever could.
“Parents often say they ‘just know’ when something isn’t quite right with their child, and in a hospital, that gut feeling is incredibly valuable,” she explains.
Leticia Jackson, Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager, Canterbury Hospital
While medical teams rely on observations, tests and equipment, parents know the little details. The way your child usually smiles. How they react when they’re tired. What’s normal for them.
So when something feels “off”, even if everything looks okay on paper, it can actually be an early warning sign.
“When parents trust those instincts and speak up, this creates a powerful partnership that can sometimes catch a problem before it becomes an emergency,” Leticia says.
Worried about speaking up? You’re not alone
A lot of parents hesitate about advocating for their child.
You don’t want to come across as difficult. You don’t want to question the people caring for your child. And sometimes, you just don’t feel confident enough to push the issue.
Leticia gets it.
“It is completely understandable for parents to feel hesitant,” she says. “No one wants to be seen as difficult or to second-guess the hardworking people caring for their child.”
But here’s a helpful way to look at it: you’re not challenging the medical team, you’re helping them.
Parents are the constant. Staff change shifts, care for multiple patients, and rely on snapshots of information. You’re there the whole time, noticing the subtle changes.
“Our medical team doesn’t view a concerned parent as overreactive, but as a partner,” Leticia explains. “Your voice matters.”
Remember, we know our children better than anyone.
What to do if you’re worried: the Raise It process
If you’re in a NSW public hospital or health service and you’re worried about you or your child’s condition getting worse, there is a clear process you can follow called Raise It.
Raise It is designed to help patients, carers and family members get help fast if they’re worried about a change in their loved one’s condition.
Here’s how it works:
Talk: Start by speaking to a nurse, midwife, doctor or health worker about your concerns.
Ask: Still worried? Ask to speak to the nurse or midwife in charge and request a Clinical Review.
Call: If you’re still concerned, you can escalate further using the Raise It process to get urgent attention from a senior health worker.
You don’t need medical knowledge. You don’t need to be certain. If you feel something isn’t right, or your child is getting worse, Raise It. You just need to speak up.
What should you actually look out for?
Sometimes it’s not one big, obvious sign. It can be small, subtle changes that just don’t sit right.
Things like:
Changes in breathing (fast, laboured or noisy)
Skin looking pale, mottled, or developing unusual rashes
Your child being unusually drowsy, floppy, or hard to wake
Confusion or behaviour that’s out of character
Pain that isn’t improving with treatment
Or simply that feeling that your child is getting worse
And sometimes, it’s just that gut feeling you can’t explain.
That’s enough.
“You are helping us, not bothering us”
If there’s one message Leticia wants parents to take away, it’s that you aren’t bothering the medical team, you’re helping them.
“In my years as a Nurse Unit Manager, I can say with absolute certainty that many critical changes in a child’s condition have been identified first by a parent. While our clinical staff are highly skilled at performing regular observations and interpreting data, parents are the only constant presence who truly know their child’s baseline behaviour, personality, and what is normal for them.
“I have seen numerous instances where a parent’s insistence that their child is “just not themselves” – despite vital signs appearing relatively stable – has prompted a deeper clinical review that uncovered everything from early signs of sepsis to a life-threatening respiratory crisis.”
The Raise It process exists because healthcare teams know how important parents are in keeping children safe.
“Speaking up doesn’t mean you don’t trust the team,” she says. “It means you’re partnering with us to make sure nothing gets missed.”
And if you’re still worried about being judged?
“Whether your concern turns out to be something or nothing, your instinct to raise it is always valid.”
You should never second guess yourself when it comes to yours or your childs health- or anyones for that matter. Go with your thoughts. It is natural to want to protect a loved one especially when it comes to health situations, and the feeling you get when you think you didnt do enough to advocate or fight for them…it is not a kind or nice way to feel. Many people have ended up being heartbroken and picking up pieces for years because of feeling they didnt do enough.
A very good and informative article. I have read so many stories about mums just knowing when things are not right and demanding second and third opinions until they got the right answer. Sometimes mums just know. It is our job as care takers of our families. Listen to your gut!
Years ago, I spoke up for my 14-year-old daughter, but my concerns weren’t fully listened to. I’ve always wished I had pushed harder. She was sent home without much testing, and two days later, she passed away.
So, if you ever have concerns—no matter how minor—please speak up and keep advocating. Trust your instincts; they are there for a reason.
This is so important for parents to know how to raise it further if they don’t think their child is receiving the medical support they need! I know this article refers to the NSW system but other systems have similar procedures just with different names. I know in QLD it’s called Ryan’s Rule.
It’s so important to follow your gut instincts and express your concerns indeed. I have never hesitated to advocate for my children in various situations and I don’t care what other people think about it. Not all doctors and medical staff appreciate it when you question them, I’ve experienced that it may result in angry indignant responses.
How true this is! While nurses and doctors are the medical professionals doing their job on the daily, we know our children better than anyone and what is ‘normal’ for them. I would always speak up if I had noticed any changes in my child’s health and encourage other parents to do so too. No question is silly!
This really is such an important issue and a good topic to discuss with people, I am often surprised that people are worried about being judged. This is not something I care about; the priority is for the care and health of everyone is my family. Parents know their children and need to work with health professionals for the best outcomes for their children.
This is such an important issue to raise, and no one should ever feel ashamed, nervous or that they are being OTT for advocating for their kids, themselves or loves ones in hospital. In QLD we have Ryan’s Rule. A three step process where your concern will be escalated if they believe the patients condition isn’t improving or is worsening.
I have never been afraid to advocate for my children and partner and extended family and also friends. It is so important to listen and to trust intuition. When people have not listened, I have persevered and kept on with insisting on care and making sure they truly listened and took action.
