Weet-Bix BIX App :
3.24 out of 5 based on 615 reviews.

As mums, anything we can do to encourage our children to start the day with a healthy breakfast is a good thing.

Which is why we’re excited to introduce the new BIX app from Weet-Bix … that’s going to have kids everywhere lining up for a healthy breakfast.

How does the Weet-bix BIX App work?

Bix are like a trade-able currency.  You collect Bix every day using your BIX app while you eat your breakfast by scanning the QR code on special Weet-Bix packs and use them to access unique experiences, instant vouchers, prizes and gifts.

To start collecting Bix you need the BIX app.

The Bix app can be downloaded from the App Store to use on your iPhone or go to weetbix.com.au/bix to sign up on your smartphone or computer.

Bix can even be used to gain access to exclusive content like videos of pro tips from teenage superstars – look for the ‘Your Turn’ stuff in the USE section of the app. Plus simply scanning the QR code every day also gives you entries into competitions.

Find out more about the new BIX app here.

Want to be part of the BIX App review team?

In the Weet-Bix BIX App review, mums selected to be part of the Weet-Bix App review team will receive a 750g pack of Weet-Bix containing the QR codes your kids can start downloading.  We’ll be asking mums and their families to download the BIX app, start collecting Bix, getting involved as much as possible and then post their review and ratings on this page.  You might even like to get your kids to post a review for you!

My son got home on Friday and was so excited about the BIX app and then when we went through the prizes that you can achieve by scanning every day he was over joyed. I'm sure I'll get reminded tomorrow to scan. I have also taken some nice photos that I will upload tomorrow.

  • Great and easy to use

This is a great app to download and very easy to use. My kids have loved the prizes and get very exited each morning to scan the weet bix box. I would recommend this to kids over the age of 10 because they are likely to value the prizes . Over all it is a great app.

  • Absolutely fantastic and exciting app to use

This App was amazingly easy to download. My son was so excited when we had a box of Weet-Bix turn up on our door and we investigated how to use the App. So many exciting things to look forward to. The scanner is so easy to use for kids and adults alike. Basically just by scanning every day whilst enjoying our favourite breakfast cereal we get to become eligible for rewards and great prizes! I'll keep everyone posted on any prizes we may win! Fingers crossed.

  • It was a great idea.

When I seen this advertised on the larger weetbix box I thought why not get the bigger box for the try out of the app etc for my boy. Well it was a let down. The app isn't that great and like usual the prizes aren't glamerous. My son does not really use or interact with the app anymore. It was easy enough to download but not being used so have deleted it since. Maybe for others it might be great but not in this family. Will still be eating weetbix though!

  • Dissapointing

My kids eat week bix every morning for breakfast, and have done for years. When this promotion first become available i was really excited. However from the very beginning the app too ages to down load, some days the credits would work and other days the would not. It took ages for points to add up and then when I finally had enough to redeem a gift the app would not work and I lost my points.

We'll they got rid of that suddenly!it was great to start out with and we received an awesome huge breakfast bowl but after that it was hard to get anything good.i also had to delete the app a couple of times.if they brought it back though I'd probably use it again

  • Ended disappointingly

Well, I'll be a little wary of future Weetbix promotions. This app turned out to be problematic in the long run - it kept hanging, so I had to delete it and download it again at least once or twice most weeks. And it didn't always register a scan, but then would refuse to accept a second try... More importantly, they seemed to forget half way through that it was about kids. Prizes were often put up during school hours or late at night, so not accessible to my kids at least; and then the promotion ended fairly abruptly, with very few prizes available in the last couple of months, leaving us with hundreds of unredeemable points. My kids were disappointed, and this wasn't at all what we thought we were promised when the promotion started. I won't want to get my kids too excited about future Weetbix promotions in case they're disappointed again.

  • Very hard to work up to anything

I downloaded the app for my son who eats weetbix most days, but we struggle to get enough 'bix' to earn any prizes so it is disappointing for him. Not worth the time or effort...

We downloaded this after seeing it on MOM but have to admit its been forgotten in the breakfast rush, it would be good if you were committed to doing it all the time and had older children. And i have so many apps on my phone did I really need another one. Life is so hectic and everyone wants their bit of you.

every time we checked there never seemed to be prizes available. they had some great prizes but we never were able to redeem them. Then i upgraded my phone and when i reinstalled the app on my new phone all the points were gone. a bit disheartened but should've thought of that beforehand i guess. great idea though and i will think ahead next time.

I must say. This is a genius idea as its something you can get your kids involved in daily and get them to eat weetbix since they are already pulling it out to scan the barcode. My 5 year old loved trying this app and ive lost track of how many times he has done this.

The app was easy to download to my Iphone, but really thats where it stopped. Only one of my kids like weatbix and she does not eat it every day. I thought the app might encourage them to eat more but they were not really interest and on the morning my daughter did eat them we usually forgot about the app.

  • Pointless

I found it silly that a breakfast cereal became an app. My kids aren't into phones, ipods etc with apps so it was on no use to us. They love weetbix but it just wasn't something they connected with. I ended up deleting the app off my phone once I realised they didn't care.

How to choose the best lunch box for school

When you’re searching for a kids’ lunch box, take the time to work out what will best suit their needs. If you make the right choice and invest in a quality one, it will last many years.

  • Box, bento or bag? If your child doesn’t like different foods touching, a bento lunch box is a great choice. Also, think about whether they prefer cut-up or whole fruit; a bento is better suited to cut food, while bags and boxes suit whole fruit. Bags are fantastic if you like to pack separate containers, like smaller bento or snack containers.
  • Freshness is a must – An insulated bag or box will keep everything cool and fresh until snack and lunchtime. But you can also get boxes that come with cold and ice packs. Remember, kids’ lunches often sit at room temperature for up to 5 or 6 hours before they’re eaten, so insulation and coolness are important. Check out how to keep school lunches safe in the heat.
  • Easy-to-clean design – Check if the box is dishwasher-safe, or for lunch bags, if they’re machine-washable.
  • Leak-proof – The last thing you want is a soggy mess at lunchtime, so if buying a hard lunch box, look for designs that are leak-proof with proper seals.
  • Child-friendly – Depending on your child’s motor skills and independence, you may need to start with a product that’s simple to open and close.
  • The right size – We tend to pack way too much in our kids’ lunches, so think about how much realistically you’ll need to pack for your child when choosing the size of their lunch box. You may also need to consider the size of their school bags.

What to put in kids’ lunch boxes

Health professionals agree that kids need a good balance of lean protein, grains, fruit and vegetables throughout the school day. Skip the processed food and try to reach for whole foods that pack a punch in the nutrient department. Here are some great ideas:

  • Grilled chicken or turkey wraps with fresh salad
  • Crackers and vegetable sticks with healthy dips like hummus
  • Whole-grain pasta with cherry tomatoes and your choice of cheese
  • Zucchini slice cut into rectangles for easy stacking in an insulated box
  • Almond-meal slice with raspberries or blueberries – or both!
  • Vegetarian sausage rolls – these freeze well and make a great meat-free lunch when cold.

  • That lunchbox comparison table is handy to have. It helped me make a decision on which lunchbox to buy next for my daughter who is starting kindergarten. I needed to upgrade her lunchbox but wasn’t sure which way to go. The table helped me with my decision. I ended up going with the BBOX and have found a cheaper lunch bag from a department store that it fits in.

  • I do not know if anyone else has picked up on this or not, but every bag mentioned in the table above is a ‘designer’ brand. There are plenty of more affordable options that aren’t over $40. I have never spent that much on a lunchbox – even from Smiggle. The cheaper brands last just as well too.

  • Getting ready for the return to school has started to kick in so this was a timely read. We have the yum box and i love it, it is so easy for my daughter to open and close on her own. I find the lunch cooler bags also a great idea however some days depending on what else needs to go to school, they can be quite bulky to include in the school bag. I need to do some more research this year as i like the idea of being able to watch it in the washing machine, that is a clever idea.

  • Along with all of the other back to school products; there is also a good range of lunch boxes available for people to buy. It has been fun to see the wide range of bottles and lunch boxes that are available for the new year for school and for work.

  • Lunch boxes have come such a long way since my eldest was a kid, he’s now 26! There’s really a solution to everything from food heating, cooling, dividers, pockets etc etc. Lunch boxes are a real fashion accessory and so on-trend these days. I personally love the Bento lunch boxes. They save on plastic and separate different foods.

  • I am such a huge fan of Bento lunch boxes and Bento. Food should be so many wonderful things; including delicious, fun, colourful and nutritious too. Lunch is a favourite meal because the body is ready for some more calories and a boost of energy. Food looks so good in Bento lunch boxes.

  • There are so many great lunch box option out there indeed ! I’ve always liked the Bento style lunch boxes for my kids. It reduces the use of plastic lunch bags and packaged food which aren’t very good for the environment and it encourages to present a good variety of foods (which is not only better nutrition wise but lao to prevent our kids from getting bored with same foods all the time.

  • There are some really fabulous options here. So many variations of colour, shape and size. I love the bento style lunch boxes, so handy to keep food separate and eliminate the use of plastic packaging. The machine washable bags are a great idea too. They can get grubby so fast, this would be so much easier to maintain

  • This has gotten much easier since my kids hit high school – they have strong opinions about their lunch boxes, so I don’t have to think about it so much anymore! However, I am strongly in favor of bento style boxes regardless of their age. They’re easy to clean, easy to pack, and invite appropriate sized portions.

  • Great article! Our kids are so lucky, when it comes to lunchboxes, they really are spoilt for choice. There are so many to pick from. Regarding sandwiches, my eldest son, used to hate sandwiches for school lunches. It wasn’t until many years later that I discovered that he’d throw out his sandwiches in the playground bins. My son’s an adult now and he still hates sandwiches. He only likes “hot” lunches. So glad he lives on his own now and can make his own “hot” lunches just the way he likes them.

  • Wow, lunch boxes have really come such a long way from when I was taking a lunch box to school. Feel old, like “back in my day”, but we were lucky to have options like are available now. While I like some of these designs, I feel like they aren’t super practical.

  • These lunchboxes are beautiful but are they really worth the expensive price tag? I have been through so many lunch boxes and bags over the years and found the best it to use an insulated lunchbox bag with ice brick and use small containers to keep individual items fresh and assessable.

  • I love the bbox lunch boxes. They are so reliable and tough when kids throw their bags around. Easy to wash and store. I have used the we can be tiny snackies at home too. The boys love choosing a certain animal shape. They wash well, are durable and great quality.

  • My kids are old enough now to pack their own lunches and I am so happy to see the great choices they are making. They take left over meals, cook food in the morning to take and now I am confident they aren’t throwing away sandwiches! I do have the chilly bags for them, I find they fit better into bags

  • Love our bento b.boxes. So easy to pack. I do however worry that they’re made of plastic, not metal….

  • My daughter uses a bento box now for work and sometimes an insulated bag in summer, but when she was at school it was a rectangular lunch box with no compartments. It was very easy to wash each day, just the box and lid, and it could still be filled with rolls/sandwiches and snacks.

  • Lunchboxes are so important these days. Back in my day it was a brown paper bag or the exact same lunch box that everyone else had and there were three compartments. Today its such a fashion statement and as much as the lunchbox itself is judged so are the contents.
