The thought of so many loving families experiencing the sudden loss of their baby is too heart-breaking to comprehend. For this reason Aussie Wipes has partnered with SIDS and Kids to support the wonderful work they do in saving the lives of babies and supporting bereaved families. As one of Australia’s most experienced health, hygiene and cleaning manufacturers Aussie Wipes was already producing products for Australian families so partnering with SIDS and Kids to launch Red Nose Baby Wipes was a very natural fit.
Every year in Australia over 3,500 families experience the sudden and unexpected death of a baby either through stillbirth or during the first month of life. The most disturbing part is there is no known cause. This is why SIDS and Kids works so tirelessly to find answers for parents by funding and supporting vital research into stillbirth, SIDS and safe sleeping practices.
While there is no explanation or cause for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) there are six key precautions parents can take to ensure their precious babies stay safe:
1. Sleep baby on the back from birth, not on the tummy or side
2. Sleep baby with head and face uncovered
3. Keep baby smoke free before birth and after
4. Provide a safe sleeping environment night and day
5. Sleep baby in their own
safe sleeping place in the same room as an adult care-giver for the first six to twelve months
6. Breastfeed baby if you can
Whilst sleeping baby on its back is extremely important there are also many other risk factors for sudden infant death syndrome that all parents need to be aware of. Always AVOID:
- Loose, soft and fluffy bedding, including sheepskin anywhere in baby’s environment
- Sleeping baby with face or head covered
- Exposing babies to tobacco smoke before or after birth
- Sleeping baby in an unsafe cot or in an unsafe environment
- Sleeping baby on the tummy or side
- Sleeping baby on a soft surface such as soft mattress, pillow or waterbed
- Sleeping baby on a sofa (with or without a parent)
Aussie Wipes aim is to help SIDS and Kids promote its six safe sleeping practices and remind parents to always put baby on its BACK to sleep and avoid all the other risk factors above. A percentage of sales from its Red Nose Baby Wipes goes directly to fund research into sudden infant death syndrome and support the wonderful work SIDS and Kids does to support parents, extended families and friends who have experienced the sudden and unexpected death of their baby or child through its bereavement program.
On the last Friday of June every year SIDS and Kids launches its Red Nose Day as a major fundraiser for a deeply moving issue. This year the big day will be held on Friday 28th June and along with its big, bright red noses its Red Nose Baby Wipes will offer another way to make a practical purchase that supports the cause.
If supporting a good cause that benefits families and babies is important then the fact that Red Nose Baby wipes are the only Australian made and owned wipes on the market will also be appealing. Five percent of total sales from Red Nose Baby Wipes support SIDS and Kids and all the great work they do, the materials are forest stewardship council approved, the ingredients are dermatologically tested for delicate skin and the value (you get 100 in a pack instead of 80) trumps all others.
Red Nose Baby Wipes is aiming to sell over one million packs per year to help fund research into stillbirth, SIDS and safe sleeping practices. Available from the SIDS and Kids online store, bulk orders only of nine pack of 100 wipes per box for $35.90 + p&h www.sidsandkidsshop.org or www.aussiewipes.com.au phone: 1300 4 Wipes
