Three models of a popular all-terrain baby and toddler pram have been recalled, with concerns the prams could collapse while in use.

The ACCC has issued a recall of some models of the Silver Cross Reef pram, stating that the locking mechanism on one side of the chassis of the pram may not engage correctly. If the locking mechanism isn’t engaged correctly the stability of the pram’s handle will be reduced. The ACCC says defects have occurred.

If the locking mechanism disengages completely while in use, the pram may collapse, posing a risk of serious injury to babies if the pram collapses while in use.

Parents have been urged to stop using the pram immediately and check the serial number to see if their model is recalled.

  • I am amazed that with all the stringent testing of baby goods here in Australia and all the testing agencies we have that recalls are still being done of faulty goods that could harm or even maim our little ones. Thanks, MOM, for being alert and letting all of us on this site know about this. So often recalls are buried in the back end of a newspaper or on a social media page.

  • How terrible!! I hope no babies were badly hurt or injured from this

  • Not a good situation for all the families out there that have these prams. I hope no children have been hurt from these. So glad we have social media to help spread the news a lot quicker when a product has been recalled due to faults that may cause harm.

  • Wow my MIL has a silver cross pram at her house for when we visit (luckily it was manufactured before 2022, but I will still let her know about the recall.
I hope they found this issue during testing and not because some poor child was hurt in the real world.

  • This is super scary and a pretty huge fail in my book. Usually these recalls are for something fairly small but this one is actually terrifying. I’m just glad they’ve picked it up now and i hope that anyone swhos purchased one sees this recall before a child is injured or worse.

  • Oh my goodness this really is rather worrying and I really do hope the timely recall warning goes out far and wide and to as many people as possible. Thank you for sharing this important recall information with this community; it will shared with those within my family and friends networks.

  • Great to see our government is working to keep our children safe with the standards and follow up that we have .I just hope it did not come to the attention of a recall because anyone was injured. In my younger days there was not the care or attention that exists today and I am glad to see we care

  • Wow! That is simply terrifying! I can’t even imagine if you were a poor parent just taking your baby for a walk and then the pram just spontaneously collapses. I wouldn’t even want to imagine the amount of damage that could be caused in such an accident. I only hope that no injuries have occurred so far.

  • That is a pretty drastic safety fail and it would be very frightening to have a pram collapse while your baby was in it. Not to mention that the parent could be injured too – if you’ve got some momentum up you could easily trip over the collapsing pram. Thanks for the warning.

    • I agree with your comment; there are indeed so many levels of possible danger and it is always so important for these warnings about the recall of products to be shared widely within communities. It is also a good idea to let people with new bubs on the way know about these warnings.

  • With al the stringent testing in place in the first instance I often wonder how we hear of so many recalls.

  • Haven’t heard of this brand before and lucky I don’t use it

  • The amount of items that have to be recalled that are used for babies is very worrying indeed. I always thought these would be thoroughly inspected before leaving the warehouses. If you need to know what is being recalled then Mouths Of Mum’s is the best site for this. I’ve never seen anything recalled anywhere better than here. 10 stars for this site

  • Thanks for sharing, I love how this community shares things like this as i have not come across this recall and will share with my mum friends who have this pram. It amazes me how so many things can get through the mandatory compliance checks these days. We are hearing more and more about items being recalled.

  • Wow, what a major (and super dangerous) failure! And for a pram that costs almost a grand! Thank you for putting the word out, MoM. I hope this was something that came to everyone’s attention randomly and not while a little bub was in the pram. I don’t even want to imagine what could have been.

    • Yes it is a major and super dangerous failure indeed. And that whilst they promote their pram to be “Providing the very best comfort & protection for your baby.” I’m alawys curious as to how a product with such major failure can pass the safety test ! Something has gone wrong for sure

  • Thanks for giving us the heads up about this recall of the Silver Cross Pram. You wonder how this pram passed the mandatory standard for prams and strollers ? You would expect that the locking systems is one of the most important features of a pram. I’m glad that they at least picked up on it now.
