Disabled schoolgirl, 6, lured to toilet and sexually abused by 4 primary school boys at recess had her cries for mummy muffled by toilet paper.

The case has come to light after the girl’s mother decided earlier this year to sue the Department of Education for failing to protect her child, who suffers from physical and intellectual disabilities.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the NSW school, in the Illawara region is being accused of failure to not only properly supervise students in their care, but also respond appropriately when reports of assaults were made.

When the six-year-old girl returned to her classroom after recess her teacher noticed something was askew. Her uniform was inside out, whereas before recess she had been wearing it the right way.

What unfolded was that a shocking incident had taken place at recess where a group of four young boys had lured the little girl into the toilet and sexually abused her.

It is alleged that after the boys lured the school girl into the bathroom, two boys stood guard while two others abused the little girl and muffled her screams with toilet paper.

Her mother said she told staff to let her daughter play only in the enclosed special-needs playground, but she was allowed access to the mainstream playground when the boys targeted her.

“She was calling for mummy and that is when they used the toilet paper to shut her up,” she said. “The boys had been targeting younger and vulnerable kids. She is suffering from nightmares and flashbacks all the time. The stress is insurmountable.”

There is discrepancy over the ages of the boys involved in the attack, with police saying two boys involved in the assault were aged 5 and 9, while the mother said her daughter identified the four boys who were aged nine to 11.

A Department of Education spokesman said the matter was referred to the Department of Family and Community Services and police.

“The NSW Department of Education’s Employee and Conduct Directorate investigated the response of staff to the alleged sexual assault,” he said. “Appropriate action was taken following the investigation.”

NSW Police spokesman said “due to the age of the alleged involved parties, a determination was made that no further police action would be taken”.

News Limited reports that documents obtained under freedom of information laws show three other alleged incidents of sexual assault at the school, one two days later when two boys pulled a male student into the toilets and sexually assaulted him, and another a week later when a victim was assaulted in the girls’ toilet by a fellow student.

NSW Police told the newspaper “due to the age of the alleged involved parties, a determination was made that no further police action would be taken”.

  • This is disgusting. This poor young girl was in a place where Mum thought she was safe. She gave instructions of where the young girl should stay and this was not done. And now they are saying the police won’t take any action because of the boys ages? These boys will grow up to think they can do this to anyone. What good is that. I say name and shame them. To the Mum of this little girl I say “I’m so sorry your child has had to go through this horrific thing. My thoughts and prayers are with you both”.

  • Terrible !! When this is already so upsetting to me / us here, how upsetting this must be for the girl and her family !! It is one of my fear this will happen one day with my disabled girl… she is so beautiful innocent and trusting everyone that I’m afraid one day someone will misuse this.

  • I am absolutely disgusted by the boys behaviour. my heart goes out to the girl and the other victims. what is wrong with the system that the boys go unpunished. no disciplinary action. no suspension. this just teaches them there is no consequences to their actions.

  • This is horrifying!! Such small boys. How can they even think of doing such a terrible thing????
Poor girl. I can’t even imagine how much she must have suffered. 🙁
The mother has all the rights to sue the Department of Education. This shouldn’t have happened!!

  • You think that your children would be safe at school. How horrific, I hope the children involved were suspended!

    • Suspending them only teaches them that if they do something wrong they get to stay home from school this is wrong and something needs to be done about it shouldnt matter what age they where

  • Let’s hope that the parents of these nasty little boys take action and something to teach these kids a lesson and hopefully change their ways. If their doing these things at age 9-11 I’d hate to think what sort of adults they will make… Cringe.
I have anxiety about my daughter going to toilet at school. I always worried about perverts getting into school grounds. Now it’s the kids.. Scary

  • I just cannot picture…..little boys are doing this! What is that saying about their home life? While police action is not being taken, I hope some sort of investigation is done and appropriate punishments and help where needed is given

  • This is just appalling. Although police charges may be inappropriate, I hope ther action is taken.
