A Period like a broken Arm - Real Mum story on MoM

We were at a bbq in the bush when my 12yo Niece shyly asked for a quiet word. She was having her 2nd period and was not prepared. I only had tampons, she’d never used them, and there was no toilet anyway ……. humm what to do?? We went for the first aid box and with my craft skills I made a Pad out of a Sling and some bandages.
We now have a code for Period …. a limply held arm!

Your niece is lucky to have such a close relationship with you. My mum couldn’t even talk about thus with me. Was very distressing

That was a clever way to improvise, I remember using a pad on my son’s badly cut foot as it was the only thing available to absorb the bleeding before we got medical help.
