My daughter turned 12 yesterday and I had her back at the Doctor today. For almost 2 years when she was born I could not feed her (breast fed) without a “chuck cloth” handy. It wasn’t till I learnt more that I realised she had reflux, but no nurse or Doctor had ever picked up on this before.
As she has grown she has often had stomach complaints and countless times we have been told, its a virus or its constipation (which she has had) or better still it was anxiety. This morning she was in a lot of pain and her stomach felt hard so I took her back to the clinic but saw a different doctor who said she has reflux. It was like a light bulb went on over my head and I realised that she has probably suffered from this same complaint most of the other times. Now we know we can watch and modify her diet and give her medication to relieve her pain.
So many times recently I have heard of similar stories and wonder how many other people have had this experience, where doctors have misdiagnosed or incorrectly diagnosed conditions? I know they’re only human and some conditions are more difficult to diagnose, but find it annoying.
