I need to take a break from facebook. I’m so addicted to all the buy n sell type pages, pay it forward pages, even local community goss pages. anyone had a facebook detox?

  • Yep. I did it gradually and for my kids too. I didn’t want them to see me constantly tapping away on my phone because they’ll think that’s normal when they grow up and have a phone. I put my phone away (literally in a drawer) before school starts each day of the week. I only get it after the kids are at school. I then put it away before they get home from school and I don’t look at it again until after they’re in bed. On a Friday afternoon I try to “sign off” (sometimes it’s hard) and not log onto FB until Monday when the kids are at school. The weekend log off doesn’t always work but I do post on FB that I won’t be checking my account over the weekend so if anyone wants to contact me to do it the old fashioned way by calling. I always feel much clearer when I’m not plugged in all the time.

  • I must admit to recently having a bit of a thing recently for buy, swap and sell sites. So far I have bought more than I have sold lol.

  • I think it’s just about moderation, don’t check it every 5 min. If u are accessing it with ur phone then get rid of the app

  • (How do you get to those pages?! I’ve been trying to find something useful on facebook for ages…people seem to love it but I just can’t get the hang of it…. and those pages just might be interesting!)…..But seriously I think anything can be addictive (even mouths of moms!) and it helps to have a few rules about use… maybe you can try keeping a record of time spent on the site and limit yourself (maybe there is an app that can do that for you?); if willpower is not enough then you might need to just block the site for yourself, go cold turkey. Maybe catching up with real friends in person will help, going to the community to find local garage sales etc. and fulfill your interests in more traditional ways.

  • All about balance – fb is ok in moderation too.

  • G’day thanks for sharing. Try doing something you enjoyed doing before you got attached to facebook. Facebook has been a god friend time for change.
Walking yoga swimming or a book. You decide.

  • I go to Facebook every day but I try to limit my time there. You could easily spend one entire afternoon just looking at people’s posts. :D

    • Being able to limit all online time is important.

  • I’ve never really got into it. I only spend about ten minutes a day with it.

  • I try to limit my time each day. I used to spend all day on Facebook and the Internet when I was pregnant!
Now I try to make it my special treat for the day, when the housework is done and baby is asleep I sit down with a cuppa and browse.
I love the buy and sell pages too! I have picked up some bargain toys for my little one!

  • I just log out regularly then im more concious of it because i have to log back in everytime i want to check it . I work from home so I have to or its far too distracting. Id never get any work done. I suggest you try and replace it with something. Maybe join some sort of playgroup of you have younger kids or if they are at school do something for yourself during the day.

To be honest even good television is better than sitting on facebook. At least a good drama series can be educational or have some substance behind it.

    Good luck with it :)
