Hello!

I have mild depression and anxiety. The anxiety caused severe weight loss. Luckily my gp got me on some medication which has helped a lot. I am much less anxious and I don’t feel depressed most of the time and I am back to my normal weight which is great.
The medication has a few mild side affects, one being night sweats, the other is I don’t sleep well. Both are a small thing I know. I recently reduced my medication by 1/4 of a tablet and was still going well. I then reduced by another 1/4 and fell in a heap. My Dr says that’s ok, I won’t be on them for ever. I am greatful for MOM website and the Mum members for posting stories for me to read when I can’t sleep.
I am also greatful I got help when I needed it

  • There’s genetic factors which can increase the likelihood of depression and anxiety. If you have a family history of depression then you’re more at risk. However, environmental factors and random events can play role too. It’s good you’re getting treatment, have your vitamin D levels checked to ensure you’re levels are sufficient as there is a link between low vitamin D levels and depression. Also, exercises such as yoga and walking can really help with anxiety. Personally, I have had anxiety and found decreasing my sugar and caffeine intake really helped.

  • I suffer of anxiety too, so I understand you. If you have problems sleeping, trying taking one tablet of magnesium one hour before going to bed. It helps me. Maybe it will help you too!

  • I can relate to your story so very much. I too suffer from anxiety and depression which included night sweats and no sleep. I was hospitalised so they got to try a few medications to find the right one. I found my night sweats to be related to my anxiety as was not sleeping (I have severe anxiety). I play relaxing music which helps me nodd off! I also found that if I was awake for long periods of time that it was best to get up and do something and then go back to bed when tired so that I didnt relate my bed to the anxiety of not sleeping. All the best on your journey..You will get there!

    • Thank you for sharing your story. The medication I’m on has the least side affects so I will just live with it for now. The night sweats have reduced since I reduced my meds
