ANXIETY SHARING - Real Mum story on MoM

Need to share my present anxieties… My son has always hated school… being special needs he didnt cope well with any situation. Being suspended from school 3/4 of last year i decided to home school him… its going ok but i know being in yr 6 he needs to go back to school to integrate into high school… Between DOCS, his psych and dept of ed nsw it has been decided that he should return to school next term… he is happy to return to school and seems to be excited… its me thats having problems, am i setting him up for failure??? feel like i am sending him back to be slaughtered yet again…. my last experience with a school was a behavioural school he was in where on being told he was having a meltdown i went to pick him up and found he was being subdued by 4 grown men… he was being held on the floor screaming… he was only 11 and it broke my heart. I know the support people in out lives r trying to help us but i am so scared… he hasnt had a huge meltdown in months and i dont want to return to daily outburts where i am in danger

I am a mum of a daughter with ASD/ADHD I feel your anxiety DAILY. I think you are doing amazingly. and the right thing. Social is such a HUGE part of special needs and this will do him wonders. The meltdowns wont be forever. Must of been such a horrible site to see sweet. Once he gets his bearings, routine and the place aint to unfamilar, it should all settle… hang in there.. My daughter hates change too. I am giving you all my power, and support to you… you can do this and he will too! <3 GOODLUCK

My 14yr old daughter also hates school and going through many struggles with her at the moment it’s really hard and wish you all luck to get through this. I’m going through so many suspensions with my daughter and I also don’t know what else to do. I’ve been supported through many organisation’s but she just refuses to get the help and support she needs.

My eldest son is also Special Needs and he hated Primary but now really likes High School. I had to change High Schools after 1 year but he’s never been happier in the second High School- good luck.
