I have been unemployed for over 3 months. Life is very hard. Everyone is asking for experience. But how to get experience if you don’t have the job in the first place. I am being very frustrated

  • Any job would do. Don’t try to get the job You want. I had Certificate 1 in Educational Assistant, but because I could only get a day here and there I ended up doing cleaning. First through an agency and then talking to the office staff at my daughter’s school. I stayed four years. Even though the pay wasn’t great, it gave me things like teamwork, working independently etc to put on a future resume. It is hard work, but you gain experience and confidence in yourself.

  • It is very difficult. I would suggest an agency and have you thought about doing perhaps a certificate? Some of them are government funded and often when people do placement they gain employment from their placements. I know it is so very difficult to juggle when you have children as well.

  • Yep I used to ask myself that same question every day. It’s all about perseverance though. I’d also recommend going through a job seeking agency, they helped me find a job and I was there for almost 18 months before falling pregnant and leaving.

  • It is hard. Try volunteer work, or talk to a professional who writes resumes – they may help you to reframe some of your unpaid work.

  • Try volunteering. You will get some experience & get you’re face known. If a vacancy comes up my even offer it to you.

  • My daughter had a few places that she worked at for little pay just to get experience. Not easy and I feel for you.

  • Don’t worry it seems even you have experience, it isn’t I the right field etc.. So I say follow you hearty, if you really want a job, contact the company direct and say why you would be a brilliant employee?

  • It can be very hard, depressing and your self esteem can take a beating, my husband has worked since the day he finished uni, he moved over to australia to be with me and start our family 7 years ago and he had applied for every job he could do. He had to re do all his qualifications as they did not accept cambridge university papers here. He has finally gotten 2 jobs and is happy, but it took a toll. I hope you get a job soon good luck

  • That is very hard. Have you thought about doing some volunteer work in the meantime? That can help. Good luck!

  • I would look towards friends sometimes it is who you know that sometimes can help out and give you some experience. Maybe even advertise on your local buy sell asking if someone can help. Hope things pick up
