Hello!

I am a mum of 2 very active little boys who are 5yo & 7yo. Most weekends, weather permitting, I just have to take them out somewhere by bus & train. If they stay home, my eldest just plays games on his iPad or laptop. They do get bored very easily. My eldest especially. My 5yo gets very cranky of his brother doesn’t play with him or give him any attention. My 7yo has a very mild case of Aspberger’s. So… He tends to be anti- social at times. Even if they do some crFt or play with blocks, they get sick of it after a while. That’s why I resort in going out with them all the time on weekends. God help us on Xmas holidays. Trying to find stuff to do will be a nightmare, as I don’t really go travelling anywhere on weekdays, unless they are meeting friends at a play centre somewhere. That’s when I take the car, S public transport is more expensive on weekdays. Has anyone else got suggestions on how to keep kids busy at home too? It’s hard, coz all they wanna do is either play games, and the other stuff they get bored of quickly…..

  • arhh boys are hard work. I hate how mine watch too much screen but I need my santity and work time too. they just want our attention all the time. I wish I could give it to them. trying to make a schedule a list of all different activities so we all don’t get bored! try rotating different toys around? play dates or have others over?

  • Thanx Suzmuzz. I do that all the time. I usually always look for fetivals to go to and anywhere where it’s free and fun for the kiddies. Yes, we do museums too, especially when kids go free and I’m free too, as I’m also a carer for my 7yo son, who has Aspberger’s. But sometimes I don’t feel like goin out all the time. Just wanna stay home and relax. My 7yo sometimes goes to the study to draw, write or make something. My 5yo is happy to play with blocks, playdoh and ipod. It’s just that sometimes they just go schitzo at play and just drive me nuts! When we go out, they can just become ferral on trip back home… Hard to wear em out….

  • My boys are 6, 4 and 1. I also find we go out to get away from the TV, Wii, iPad etc. Try googling ‘free activities for kids’ in your city. Over the school holidays, you could even make them up little passports and give them a stamp or sticker for every different place you go. You might find they drag you out the door! We also have yearly passes for places like zoos and museums. A lot of kid friendly tourist attractions Like museums have special kids activities during school holidays. If it rains an you’re stuck at home, Pinterest is a great resource for fun educational kids activities to do at home.
