Hello!

So I Iike to keep active – thinking running/ walking/ fitness routines – but there always seems to be something wrong: a nagging injury, fresh muscle aches, an acute injury from tripping over, something that just flares up over night in a completely ‘unrelated’ part of my body.

I sometimes think I’m just wearing out and getting too old for activity – and maybe I am – but then plenty of others I know are older than me and still out and about. So I can’t give up yet!

I hope it’s that I just have to get the balance – rest, don’t over do it, listen to my body, build up slowly etc. etc. etc. – all much easier said than done. But of course the ‘underlying’ issues might be more serious, and perhaps something that just ‘rest’ wont fix. I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

But for now I often think I am wearing out! And sometimes wish that I had done more when I was ‘young’… but of course regret never fixed anything, so I just have to keep positive, cope with set backs and enjoy what I can, when I can… I guess I’m not getting any younger.

Anyone else ‘plagued’ by physical setbacks from things they would like to do? Any advice?

  • I totally feel you! I am 31 years old mum of 2 and about 9 months ago I literally woke up one day unable to walk properly my lower back was aching, initially I thought what had I done 9or my partner the previous night hehe) so I went to the chiropractor thinking he would be able to help….no after months of agony I had an xray turned out I have arthritis in my lower back (oh yay) and due to my age and notbeing overweight I found medical professionals not to be too helpful. after changing doctors twice I now have a great doctor only problem is I can never get in to see her. since all this I was also diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2 weeks ago and ongoing further tests to see if many other joints are affected. pain is chronic and with working full time and 2 children the struggle is real, you wake up in agony and go to sleep like it. I take pain meds but I try not to all the time as It affects my kidneys. i urge you to seek medical check to see whats happening i put mine off way too long and always put myself last but when it comes to being able and physically active for as long as possible for our kids sake please look after yourself i learnt the hard way and did more damage than god. good luck fellow mummy and sorry for my long ranted comment :) take care and keep us updated!

  • Good on you for keeping fit – exercise has so many benefits. I just need to be kinder to my body as I get older and adjust my exercise accordingly. I warm up and cool down before and after exercise . I also choose exercise and activities that are not as demanding on my body.

  • I hear you! Sounds like you’re doing well to listen to your body to get the balance right! Keep up the activity, sometimes changing the type of exercise helps. Like swimming or walking more than running for a while.
