It is such a joy when you have relatives or friends on a farm. We had distant relatives who lived on farms. We were allowed to help bottle feed some lambs that had taken from their Mum for some reason. It was very upsetting when one they had rescued with its Mum died. Their kids were used to it and took it in their stride – not me. One family had some emu chicks they had rescued. Another had some joeys they were hand rearing on bottles.

The first time I took my son to visit his grandparents on my side, I loved seeing his reactions to the animals too. Mum and dad had a small farm so we could get up close with the animals as they were semi tame
