Hello!

I would like to know your stories and suggestions for a 2 year old who has separation anxiety.
I am looking at putting her in daycare 1 day a week to begin with but am worried that after the first half hour once the newness of it all wears off she will freak out and break down.
Just wanting to know how other bubs went who have separation anxiety and what you did to help it along.
I think I am getting anxiety feelings over how she will cope also now. Her sister will be there until the end of the year plus I have a bub at home so I can’t stick around for the morning and see how she goes.

  • My son was like this, so much that I just stopped taking him. Which meant I just had to deal with it when it came to school time, no pulling him out from school. It’s extremely hard but I suggest you stick with it and it will become easier

  • I will never forget the anxiety on both sides of having to leave my son in the mornings at Day Care. He was never happy to go and didn’t like to mix with the other kids. I remember hiding behind the bushes when I left him to observe if he was ok and feeling heartbroken at seeing him all by himself and looking so lonely in the playground. Thank fully it got better over time but it was heart wrenching at the time.

  • maybe ease her into it starting with a few hours pick her up take her home for a sleep etc, the next week leave her for lunch pick her up, the next week leave her until after her sleep, then a full day. I think giving a kiss saying i love you and goodbye then leave even if upset may seem harsh but i truly think it makes it worse when us mums hang around. be sure to tell her i love you ill be back after lunch or after a sleep etc, be consistent dont miss weeks unless she is ill etc goodluck hope it all works out for you xx
