Isn’t it interesting to get out and about, amongst other people?! I find it very entertaining sometimes, just chatting to different people for their views. For example, on Saturday night I was talking to a woman who owned our local shop, it burnt down last March and hasn’t been rebuilt. She was going on about ‘an old derro who used to have Taranna Bakery.’ According to her, he went bankrupt and had to sell because he had a gambling problem,m’useless old fool’ she called him. Our local store isn’t being rebuilt, it’s been reduced to a shipping container just so we can get our mail……why hasn’t it been rebuilt, nearly 2 years later? The insurance money was paid out but there were too many debts outstanding. Once they were paid, there was no money for the rebuild. Hypocritical or what?!

  • I’m not sure I’d compare these two situations.

  • I think it’s a good indication the insurance money has been spent and not on rebuilding the shop. It was a local icon. Now people have to travel for milk and bread and Post Office services. Did I mention the daughter in law/wife has a new partner and just spent thousands on IVF?

  • That’s a pity! Gambling problems can really ruin lives of entire families!

    • It is a horrible addiction that can cause huge family problems and heartache.

      • And if the person with gambling problems doesn’t admit to have them, there isn’t much to do, sadly. :-(

      • Communities need to be more responsible when it comes to gambling as the impact is far reaching.

  • Sounds complicated – insurance always is.
