Hello!

Many years ago in the late 70’s, I won a Nursing Bursary, which meant I was automatically into the School of Nursing in Bendigo, Victoria. But, I had to complete year 12, then the August after I finished school, I had to wait until August. It was a long time to wait, but i completed year 12. I didn’t have to pass, just do it, so at that age, my heart wasn’t into it.

I got through Year 12, then moved to Melbourne to be closer to my family. They had 2 small boys, but my step mum was wonderful. I first got a job in Footscray, in a Greek Fried Chicken place, but I had to lose some weight, so I got a job in North Melbourne at the Staedtler factory, it was great. I would then catch the train to St Albans, go to the gym then job home. My special dinner would be ready for me when I walked in the door. I nursed for a few years and left. I then had no job prospects. I graduated as an Enrolled Nurse, but when I injured myself years later, so I had nothing.

We moved to Ipswich when our youngest was ready for school, hubby and I were both working so I decided to go to uni to do a Bachelor of Commerce.. I worked hard, and my achievements were great. I felt like my chest was out so far due to pride. I was lucky, my work paid for my books, and alllowed time off for exams and to study. But my dad passed away, and after alot of serious thought our family moved from Queensland to Victoria, then I lost interest. It is hard to explain, but my dad and I were very close, he wasn’t around to be proud of me, as well as the move was hard on us all.
After a few years in Victoria, we moved to Tasmania, and the kids started to leave home so I felt it was the right time to go back and finish my course. So I applied to Deakin University, was given credit for what I had done, and studied hard again. This time I did it for me. It was great to feel so pride for myself.

Over the years, I have been using the experience I have learnt and we have had our own businesses. They have been successful, and now I am in the process of opening my own online store. It will be called “All Bargains and Discounts”, and I will have special Deals on the Home Page, as well as throughout the site. I am very exciting, I am using all my life experiences which have been great.

The moral of this story is, you may not do real well at school, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be successful in your older years. All you need is a bit of intestinal fortitude to take the risk. It may work, it may not, but you can try. there are so many sites where you can get free websites. Good luck for the future, if you feel you need something in your life, then why not do a blog, you can talk about anything you want, things you cook, your children, anything. You can work on it while the kids are having an afternoon sleep, or whilst they are at school.
All the best to those mums out there who feel like they can do anything when they put their mind to it.

  • Thank you to every one of you lovely people who have left such inspirational comments for me.

I am even more determined to do better for us. The website is going slow, I am making sure I do it properly and reading a lot of information, and creating it step by step. I want to be successful, my hubby can’t understand why I haven’t finished it, but he doesn’t understand that you need to take time to do it properly.

There were a couple of messages saying they want to do something but not sure what to do. I have had some support from mentors and other friends on other websites. They gave me an idea to create a website Blog, then have advertisements put on the website so you can make a bit of money. There is a site called wordpress.com. You can pick a free website, think of something you are passionate about. I am passionate about being able to take your pets on holidays with you, so I am also creating a Blog Website called http://www.takeyourpetsaway.com. All you do is write about your favourite things, then gets ads on there and you make money. The ads are usually put on that are in relation to your site, as mine is pets and holidays, I will have Pet Friendly Accommodation ads, Vets etc. There is a small fee for your domain name, this is your webpage name. Just an idea. If I can think who I went through I will let you know, but you can do it easily enough through wordpress.com. Have a go, you never know. Just an idea for you.

I will post when it is ready to look at.

Thank you and all the best.

    xxx Dee

    • You really do give me inspiration to look at something that I might be passionate about, and see if I could do as well as you’ve done. I’ve just got to think of something.

  • Congratulations to you for putting in the hard yards and having it pay off. It’s great when you can have a dream/goal/ambition and have it all work out for you. It’s daunting to start new things and try to make them work but very move and possibly life changing.
