Hello!

I have 2 beautiful children. Matthew (18) and Sophie (12) but, I feel like I must have trod on a leprechaun with all sorts of bad luck that happens in our house.

When Matthew was 5 1/2 we found he had a tumour on his Brain Stem (benign) but we had the run around from the medical profession and at one stage it was so bad that I was accused of suffering from Munchausens by Proxy. This was because I stood up for Matthew when I felt he wasn’t being treated properly (we even had to take him to Sydney to see Dr Teo as we didn’t have confidence in the doctors here in Adelaide).

We have also found he had Aspergers , and because of all the brain surgeries he has had he now has a mild Brain Injury and Cognitive Impairment.

Lately I feel like I am coming unstuck. Matthew wants to move out of home (we’ve been told he needs supported accomodation) and he gets very angry when things don’t go the way he wants or when I annoy him (usually it is after 10pm when I’m trying to get him to turn his computer off and go to bed).

Yes, Matthew I know you can’t sleep when you do go to bed but, you need to tell yourself you will go to sleep and just relax and not fight going to sleep.

I’m sorry when I roll up your blind at 11am to let the light in your room (the doctor told me to do it to get you into a better sleep pattern). So please stop yelling at me.

Please get off the computer and do your chores. I wrote them down for you so you would know what to do (just like I do everyday).

Matt have you had something to eat today? No not chips etc but something healthy. Don’t forget to drink either or you will get another headache.

Have you had your tablets in your Webster Pack? Yes, you need to take them and you can’t forget.

Sorry, Sophie I haven’t forget about you darling. Yes, I will help you get your lunch, take you to swimming, watch a movie with you.

Thank you for doing your chores. No, mummy doesn’t need anything else done. You can go play on the computer/watch TV/go to the playground.

I know you want to do gymnastics but, you know you’re not allowed to because of the Cyst on your brain.

Yes, I agree it’s not fair but, there is so much you can do. You sing in the School Choir, you go swimming, you look after your chooks, you help daddy cook.

Yes,I love you too and I understand that you get angry and sad sometimes because your dumb Cyst stops you playing sport in case you get a bang on the head and it starts to leak.

I remember you to Phil (husband). I’m sorry I’m not in the mood tonight. I’m too tired/stressed. But, I do love you.
