Hello!

It has been 6 years since my husband I bought our house and finally we are able to do some renovations! I am having my whole kitchen re vamped. However in order to do this we have had to reconfigure some other rooms. My kids now have to share a room. They are super excited about sharing and having a bunk bed. The 3rd room will become a spare/computer/toy room. I will even have new floors and a new lounge – it is all so very exciting.
However, little did I know how I much ‘stuff’ I had accumulated over these 6 years! I have kept so much junk. My friend started me on a project called Konmari and it is about letting go of items and objects that no longer bring joy and minimalizing what you have. I thought this would a great idea for me to start but I am so overwhelmed!
I have slowly been going through little things like toys, clothes and the kitchen…selling items, giving them for free and to charity. But the more I look around, the more I see and it just doesn’t seem to end. I have bought new items for my new kitchen and they are just sitting in boxes and waiting. Everything is on order and I just wish the next 3 weeks would happen now! Such an exciting time, but it is also frustrating me.

  • I know what you mean. I’ve gathered heaps of smaller and bigger treasures in my life, which I think I’m going to use one day…. I’m not good in clearing out.

  • I often look around our house and think…..I do not look forward to the day we have to pack up and move :/ We have been here for over 22 years, so you can imagine our collection of junk :/

  • Sort into keep, charity and sell piles. Then you are giving back to the community to those in need and can also make some money to help fund your reno’s with the things you sell> Goodluck!

  • We are going through the same process right now except I haven’t even started thinking about the fact that I should use this an opportunity to de-clutter so I am going to steal your idea and try to do the same. Hopefully by Christmas we will all feel lighter in our lives :)

  • I was always told that instead of many small areas to sort it’s best to put everything in the middle of the room (even though it is daunting to begin with), you can see everything and you can see the progress.

Best of luck to you and hope you enjoy your new space.

  • Good luck with the renovations. I try and do a junk clean every 6 months to try and clean it all up.

  • That sounds wonderful. I too have accumulated too much stuff and don’t have the time to declutter

  • I find it frustrating that I never have enough time to properly clear out the junk before it starts accumulating again.

  • Yes, over the years we accumulate so much. We moved house different times and this way we were able to get rid of some clutter. But now, after 3 years living in our first home, I should start uncluttering again.
It’s fantastic that you are doing the renovations. Hopefully you will be able to let go unnecessary stuff! :-)
