Hello!

Just wanted to tell you all I am now a grandma at 46, such a fantastic experience, you just cant stop thinking about the cherub all day long.

Now i understand what people meant when they said ‘THEY WISH THEY HAD HAD THEIR GRANDKIDS FIRST” and i know exactly what they mean.

One thing i would like to pass on to anyone who is about to step into the same role, I did have a few worries before that I wasnt going to be good enough, but i now realize you just have to LOVE the baby, give the mum as much praise as you can and ENJOY & RELAX.

  • Sometimes other relatives take on the role. It is very rewarding but I find it can be tiring, especially when they ask for sleepovers at 2 y.o. and occasionally don’t sleep through the night. I don’t sleep very well. I think I subconsciously listen out for them. They snore and so do I. They don’t sleep in my room at all, except on 2 occasions after nightmares during which one screamed and I couldn’t pacify her when they woke up. After 30 minutes I relented and which ever one it was went to sleep within 5 minutes. I love them with all my heart but I have to confess occasionally I am glad to “give them back” to their parents when I get too tired. Sometimes I feel as though I need more pairs of eyes as they are next to you one second, and literally gone the next. Thankfully they are both well behaved.

  • I’m also a grandma at 45 and love my little man to the moon and back. Its awesome to be able to enjoy this role at such a young age….hehe I often get mistaken for his mum when I take him to the library and playground. Despite my concerns when my daughter fell pregnant at such a young age, we couldn’t be happier.

  • Congratulations! 46 seems young to be a grandma, but I’m sure it just gives you all the more energy to spend on baby – especially as they grow up!

    • Yes I had never really thought about it even when my daughter was expecting, but when the baby actually arrives it is so beautiful to be able to enjoy and love a baby when you are not tired out from running round after it. Look forward to it, it is amazing
