Hello!

Today my partner had to appear at VCAT to get a possession order reviewed. Long story but we had become behind in rent due to a lot of personal issues. Our landlord has been more than understanding and has given us time to catch up. Unfortunately the rental manager has different ideas, and insists on doing everything to the letter. Against the landlords wishes she took the matter to VCAT, we requested a review and asked that the possession order be removed.

As my partner was explaining our personal issues and the reason behind our arrears, the RM (rental manager) sat there scoffing and laughing. I find this incredibly disrespectful and also rude. She has threatened us with black marking on the tenancy database, and is doing everything in her power to ensure our rental history is screwed. To make matters worse we have and eviction notice to move by February as the landlord wants to move back in.

I’m so frustrated, the rental market is insane in Melbourne and we can’t afford to stay in the area unless we get a boarder to help pay the rent. We do our best and pay extra each fortnight to catch up, meanwhile my debts are piling up because there isn’t money to pay everything every fortnight. Things will improve once I can find a job, it’s hard after you’ve been studying for 5 years and have no industry experience.

End rant…sometimes it helps to just get it all out!

  • Renting is hard – especially with awful rental managers. I hope you find stable stress free accommodation soon

  • I don’t know how much room you have but you mentioned getting a boarder. Have a look at a site called airbnb …. It sounds like you are close to Melbourne, so have a look at what other ppl have posted to get an idea what you should do. So rather than have a full time boarder you will make more money doing it this way. Good luck. And you don’t need to tell the agent.

  • some times boarders can be a good thing. it will help you get back on your feet and I can only say that budgeting will help your money go further.. We went from 2 incomes to 1 with 2 kids buying our home, credit card debt. now we are still on 1 income my hubbie cant work, debts paid off, the house will be ours in 6 months and I am looking at an investment property and I also work in aged care so I don’t earn a fortune. keep your chin up.

  • Never trust a rental manager! Call My Budget. We were in almost the same boat and now rent up to date and bills paid.

  • Feel your pain, not with the rental manager who sounds like they need a slap across the face but with all the bills and dept pilling up they don’t make it easy to get ahead these days even when we both work nothing comes easy. I hope use get ahead
