Hello!

I have two kids who love to help out at dinner time. Today I told the oldest she could clean off the table to get it ready for setting (they had been sitting there doing some craft). Soon after the little one came and wanted to help, and I said she could set the table. I put the plates and cups and cutlery on the kitchen bench, and she happily started carrying them over, one at a time.

I go to the back of the house to go to the toilet, and while I am there, I hear them both starting a massive fight. I thought, how could preparing for dinner become a fight?

Turns out, the oldest one kept clearing the table, even the stuff the youngest one was putting on there, so it was going back and forth. All I could hear was “But Mum told me to!!” from both of them.

Clearly, I learnt that giving them ALL the information at once – and to both of them – would have made for a quieter time. We all had a laugh though!

  • Yes kids always seem to find something to fight about whether it’s a simple task (we thought was a simple task) or not. My youngest who is a very smart boy at school can never remember more than 2 jobs at a time
