Hey MoMs,

I’ve had three children. One naturally and two c-sections.

My first and only passed away during childbirth and so had to have my two girls (that are now 3 and 2) via c-section. My girls are now toddlers and I’ve been trying to lose the baby weight for what feels like forever. I have 18 kilos to go. But, over the past 12 months I noticed that my stomach hasn’t gone down. I look 3 months pregnant at least. So i had a feel of my stomach and noticed a huge gap in the muscle where my belly button sits. Like most people, I googled my findings to make sure i wasn’t crazy and before i brought it up with my Doctor. I discovered I have Diastasis Rectis. The separation of the left and right abdominal muscles….picture a fit persons six pack abs and separate them down the middle. It also causes chronic back pain. I asked my doctor and he examined me….i have a 3 inch gab between. Because its such a large gab he says i may need a full tummy tuck. I’m a little scared but i really want my back pain to go away and to have my old tummy again (or at least less pregnant looking). I’m a student and mum of two with very limited income. I have no idea how i’m going to pay for a tummy tuck on top of everything. Any suggestions?

  • I’d never heard of this before.

  • I have the same problem. However as it involves major surgery I decided to live with it. It does get a little better with time.

  • I have never heard of this before now. Maybe you get a job just walking dogs or some cleaning just to get a little bit more money and help you save. If it is a medical procedure and not being done for cosmetic reasons shouldn’t it be done free of charge in the public system?

  • I know the feeling. I have two children last one was c section and I have to tell you I still have the baby belly. Everyone tells me sit ups but I have tried this and the doctor said give it up to two years for my muscles to be back to normal. Bub is now two and a half and I still have my belly

  • I had the same thing, with certain exercise it will close up again, but watch out and don’t lift to much as when mine was closing up some fat got stuck and now I have a hernia, which will need an OP, but since we are UN sure if having more kids,I am not getting the OP done, good luck with it
