Personally I think it might take the fun out of shopping?

Hi, I enquired about mystery shopping last month after seeing an ad on Gumtree. I received an email from a lady named “Valerie” and this is the email below if you are interested in finding out more.

My sister in law has been a mystery shopper for years. She swears by it but having completed a few tasks for her over the years it doesn’t pay well for the time it takes. Sure the actual task may not take long but then you have to fill in a report (sometimes quite long) that night and send through receipts etc to get paid. The advantage is you may get some free groceries or a dinner out etc but you have to get the jobs first and that can be a challenge. If you are interested give it a go for a bit and see if it suits your lifestyle and if you get many tasks.

I think this would be fun but I’ve never heard of how to get Ito this business. Any help would be great.

I have considered this as something to do on the side as well but it doesn’t sound like it is worth the effort. I hadn’t thought of asking on here but I thank you for the questions and comments

I looked into mystery shopping but most of the feedback I got was that it took a lot of time and the reimbursement was not great. I instead looked into different product review sites like Soup which I’ve had a couple of products to review (but you only get the products for free there is no cash).

I was a mystery shopper a couple of years ago. I gave it away as I found the amount of time I was having to put in wasn’t worth the product that I was getting for free. I also didn’t like some of the tasks that I was asked to perform. I’m a quiet & reserved person and the company I worked for wanted me to make a nuisance of myself 🙁 The only payment I received, was that I was able to be reimbursed for which ever product I was asked to purchase if I kept and sent in my receipt.

I’ve recently heard of this, maybe it’s the latest trend in shopping lol. I’m interested too, maybe a bit like market research perhaps,which I do from time to time 🙂

I joined two different mystery shopper companies but have never been allocated an assignment

I have the Engager app. When I first signed up, there were 3 tasks that earnt me $20. But there hasn’t been any new information tasks in over a month.

I’m in a group, through the engager application on my iPhone. You have to visit a supermarket, service station etc doesn’t pay a lot I only do it if I’m going there I don’t go out of my way.

If I have to go to the shopping center on the date they are asking for shoppers, I will usually try and do some as it means I will be paid to go and do my shopping and I get to have a look at all the new things as well. They dont pay very much and I can usually complete 4-6 assignments in 2.5 hours earning from $40-70, without purchases.

there are companies that pay you to do ‘mystery shopping’ – they will give you a task to go to a particular store for a particular reason and for that you usually get the goods and a payment for it (in return for filling in feedback about your experience). I did it a long time ago but was wondering how much it had changed.
