Hello!

Having read the earlier horrific story of domestic violence and abuse, I was reminded of something that happened to me several years ago.

I was working in a call centre, so predominatly wome, and generally a caring bunch.

Now we had cupboards abive the kitchen bench at home, and I was cleaning them out one day when I turned and literally caught my eye on the corner.

I had a marvellous black eye and a cut as well.

So the next day I went to work, and of course people asked what happened. Without even thinking about it, I said I walked into a door. Well that was always the sterotypical excuse for domestic violence!

Next thing I had the counsellor asking if I was ok, and a bunch of brochures about domestic violence and places I could get help left on my desk!

It was very hard convincing people all was well at home, but it was nice to find people do care!

  • Lol. I had the same trouble explains my wound on my forehead. I honestly walked into a tree branch. I’m sure some people didn’t believe me though.

  • Its nice to know that there is help there if you need it. Its a shame that in society, an innocent injury leads us all to that first conclusion!

  • Domestic violence is still such a taboo topic. Im glad you werent being subject to it. And good on the girls that you worked with to give you the information you needed without judging, even if it was a cleaning accident!
