Hello!

In 2011 a lady from the Benevolent Society approached our QCWA branch about giving a group of young disadvantaged people cooking and life skills lessons. Most of these people lacked a mother figure and close family environment as they grew up, so lacked the skills essential to raise their own families. In the monthly sessions, the cooking sessions are mutually planned for the following month, including menu planning, ,budgeting, interpreting recipes . Our members choose several recipes on a theme and the young people cook them with our guidance and tips. Everyone then enjoys the lunch, comparing the recipes, what they liked and didn’t and how a recipe can be adapted for fussy children So far we have done School lunchbox dinners, Allergy meals. pasta bakes , stir fries, soups, slow cooking, biscuits, cakes salads, confectionary, finger and party food and many more. we also teach some easy crafts that mums can do with their kids. The ongoing program works for both parties in giving the young ones and their preschool children interaction with an older group of ladies and allows us to pass on skills of life to a younger generation

  • Kris, what a wonderful thing you and the benevolent society are doing to help these young people. Everyone needs guidance in their lives and for them to have people that show they care about them is a wonderful thing. Keep up the great work.
