I agree with you that you should not leave young kids in car, but at what age is it acceptable??If the children are teenagers they want to be left in the car as it is “uncool” to be seen with Mum and if you are dashing in to grab some milk I think this is acceptable as they all have mobiles and could ring you if needed, but for up to around 13 years old why would you leave them unattended in a car park?? Particularly babies, toddlers and preschoolers who are too young to ask for help if needed or do not know how to operate a phone etc. You did the right thing.

  • I agree 100% with this. Why on earth have the kids in the car with you if you just plan on leaving them in the car? Yes, it takes longer when you gave to get them in and out of the car, but so much better to be safe then sorry

  • Young children should never be left in a car. I never leave mine, even if it’s a quick dash into the servo to pay for fuel

  • I don’t think there is anything wrong with leaving a 13 year old in the car if they don’t want come out. It’s just the young children, babies, I cannot believe people do this. I was in the carpark a couple of years ago when I noticed a baby strapped in her car seat – no parent around. It was hot, and I was just picking up my phone to call the police when the mother arrived and saw me on the phone, she jumped in that car so quickly – didn’t put her seat belt on and just took off. I guess she saw me on the phone and panicked. I hope that scared her enough to never do that again.

    • You can only hope but, she probably has!
