Hello!

The return to work is looming and we are yet to finalise a placement for daycare. We are lucky that I only work part time so hopefully the work/home balance will work for bub. We are unlucky that we have limited services available in our area and have no family available in our area in the event of sickness. Do we go a centre or family day care? Do we go with a registered minder or unregistered? Its a very difficult decision. We have heard that our bub will likely spend the first few months suffering from bugs and germs. And it will be the middle of winter! Its a very difficult decision. How does one pick a carer?

  • You can’t beat your instinctive feeling about a centre or carer. But do make sure they’re registered.

  • Although I was lucky and had family as a back up I would only consider registered day care. Yes there might be the viruses and bugs for a short amount of time but after visiting a family day care I felt uncomfortable and unsure about the possibility of people I don’t know driving my babies around. Ultimately though in the end you need to go with your gut instinct so visit all your options before making a decision

  • Half the battle is actually getting a place

  • I’d be asking other people who they use for childcare, and listening to their opinions and recommendations. Word of mouth is a powerful thing, and I’d give a lot more credence to personal recommendation as opposed to advertisements.
