This morning I was carrying my shopping and heading for the travelator. I approached it at the same time as another woman , in front of us was a lady with a trolley. As we both approached the start, the woman said to me “don’t push in”. At this stage I just bit my tongue and let her move on. This was where my anger rose as the woman stood right in the middle of the travelator…but I held it together and calmly said “would you kindly move to the side so I may pass”. I proceeded to walk around her then made my way past the lady with the trolley, the lady with the trolley even had the politeness to ask if I was OK with the space between her trolley and the edge of the travelator. I thanked her and told her there was plenty and proceeded to walk on down. In the back ground I could hear the rude ill mannered woman muttering out load.
Now when I travel on travelators with my trolley I stand to the left so other shoppers can pass on the right if they wish. If I stand and just let the moving floor carry me along I also observe the left rule. I have a pet hate of shoppers standing next to each other usually talking and preventing those shoppers behind them moving faster on their way if need be.
Now undoubtedly the woman in question was rude and just being an over all pain but the lovely lady with the trolley was also on the wrong side of the travelator.
I am wondering if we should actually have etiquette signs reminding us of the proper use of travelators?
Love to see your comments on this, and if indeed you apply the left when standing and the right when passing (yes it’s the same as our roads) approach.
