Hello!

My Miss 6, about to turn 7, has been having a hard time of it lately with missing her Daddy. She has been holding his photo in bed. I have come in to check in on her at night and she is holding on tight to the framed photo of her Daddy and herself. She is missing him terribly.

She woke up this morning and decided that we needed to go to the Memorial Park to visit Daddy and make sure his plaque is tidy and clean. We arrived to sunshine and trickling water – such a beautiful day, just a bit windy. My girl strode through all the memorials until she came to her Dad’s and proceeded to clean and tidy and remove all the fallen leaves and seeds. Her letters from previous visits, she placed up against the rocks so that they wouldn’t blow away.

I watched her do this with sadness and pride. She is such a brave little girl. I offered to help but said “No, Mummy, this is my job.”, so I sat beside her while she cleaned. We had our chat with her Daddy and then little Miss decided she wanted to walk around the park.

While she walked, she would tidy up and remove leaves, seeds, fallen branches from other memorials. One Memorial she came to had a beautiful butterfly that had fallen to the side and wasn’t sitting right. She placed it ever so gently back onto the memorial plaque, patting it into place. She did this with angels, stars, birds, animals that people have left behind for their loved ones. She just wanted them to be tidy.

In the end, we were both tidying and placing cherished things back onto memorial plaques and we must have spent about an hour doing this before heading back to Daddy to say our farewells.

I am truly blessed to have such a beautiful, thoughtful and brave little girl.

Love you to Daddy’s Star and back, sweetie.
