I found out I was pregnant and it was truley the best day of my life.

I was lucky enough to avoid morning sickness and felt in top if the world.

When I was 3 months pregnant I decided to tell my doss.

I worked at s local hotel and had worked there for 3 years.

He seemed angry and said don’t expect a day off.

It upset me but I let it be.

Then when I returned to work the next day I was told to go to the office.

Where I was told I no longer had a job.

I was so angry that this man had made me redundant just for being pregnant. I spent the next 4 months looking for a job, but no one wasn’t to employ a lady who is pregnant.

Has anyone else experienced discrimination at work ?

  • All these bosses and businesses sound horrible!

  • Yes. I am currently being discriminated against and I have a university degree! My boss is a mother and I work in a female dominated profession. Fopllow your union advice and COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN. Stick up for your own rights within the workplace!

  • My work were really good to me when I fell pregnant so I was lucky!
In your case I would be looking at lodging an unfair dismissal case against them. Even as a casual if you have had no documented warnings against you – you might just have a case and win!

  • Yup. Had complications, so could not work, got a letter saying I was not entitled to maternity leave – paid or unpaid – and if I did not return to work straight after having the bub, I would lose my job and have to pay back wages. Nice. Your boss sounds like a right royal charmer, so it may be a blessing in disguise! Good luck for the future

  • I took a job not telling them I was pregnant as I had only moved to the area and was despite. when I did finally tell them, they made me finish at the end of the financial year so they wouldn’t have to worry about tracking me down for the next years group certificate. hmmm
