For those who know a FIFO wife,
Here’s an insight into their life,
While he’s away she’s mum and dad,
So has to deal with the good and bad,
There’s cuts and bumps and laughter and tears,
And lots of cuddles, screams and cheers,
There’s jobs to be done and kids to feed,
A grocery run and, hang on mate, what do you need,
Oh you want that toy, you’ve spilt your cup,
Please be a good boy I’m tidying up,
Now your sisters are crying they want a feed,
Before I start what do you need?
You want to play, I know you do,
We’ll do just that, when I’m through,
Oh we mustn’t forget to hang the washing out,
Then maybe we’ll get out and about.
Let’s go to the shops and walk the dog,
Have we got everything? oh my brain’s a fog,
Okay when did we change your nappy last?
Where’s the time gone it’s gone so fast,
I’m sure at some point we all were fed, and perhaps the kids were bathed and put to bed,
And I always make sure that every day,
Each child has cuddles and time for play,
Some days I don’t get time for me,
But I don’t mind it’s meant to be,
There’s plenty more that I should do,
But I really think my day is through,
Now I know it’s only half past eight,
And I haven’t showered but it’s too late,
I really need to climb in bed,
And try to rest my weary head,
Let’s see how much sleep I get in
Before my night shift is about to begin,
I’m sorry if I didn’t return a call,
But please try again I still need you all,
Sorry I think I was sidetracked somewhere,
But that’s my life so I thought I’d share,
Some days are harder than the rest,
But like everyone else I’m just doing my best,
Don’t get me wrong I love my life,
But this is the life of a FIFO wife!

  • One Of My friends is a FIFO mum and i have to say what a great job she does(and so do you).. At times she puts us all to shame coping with things the way she does with little support.. But I have to say her relationship with her hubby seems so Strong. We have nicknamed her hubby Mr Mum due to the fact on his weeks home he does everything from Playgroup(catching up with us ), shopping, daycare and school drop offs. so he makes up for when he is away..

    • Thanks, we all do our best in whatever situation we are in and everyone handles it differently. Haha sounds like my man… He comes home and comes to Playgroup and makes the coffees, cooks, cleans, let’s me sleep in, helps shop etc.

    • Thanks, I’m always asked about it and this was the best way I knew how to explain.

  • Did you write this? The life of a FIFO wife I guess it’s not very easy at all. Nice when hubby is back home. Make the best use of your time together! :-)

    • Yes I did, I made it up one night when I couldn’t sleep! Yes feels very easy when he’s home.

      • I can understand that, when he’s away, you may feel overwhelmed by all the responsibilities falling on you. But think it won’t be forever. A hard time now, but it’s for a better future together as a family. :-)

      • Thanks, we are lucky with lots of support. Our son likes counting down the sleeps til daddy’s home which helps both of us really and the girls aren’t old enough to understand yet. It’s hard at times but definitely worth it in the end, & I love the excitement our son has when he sees daddy come home.

      • I can imagine. When my daughter was young, my husband used to travel for his job. Not for long periods of time but quite regularly. It was always a party for my daughter when he came back. :-)
