Hello!

21 years ago I felt a small raised area on right side of my abdomen saw a specialist who wanted to admit me straight away but surgeon was afraid bowels needed empting so I was discharged then readmitted 3 days later in which time the tumour size had increased (as if I was 3/4 months pregnant) had tumour, ovaries and tubes removed follow up appointment for nearly three years giving blood each time to be sent down to Monash University for testing then I was told I didn’t have to have any more follow up appointment, in 2010 I had a discomfort in the abdomen area a ct scan recommended that I have a MRI done results was a chodriod tumour which my doctor rang the radiology to see what this type of tumour was she accepted the results 3 months later I had another scan done and tumour had not increased in size or causing an problems, about 4 months ago I had pain in the right side pelvic area had a ct scan MRI which found that there were 2 other tumours that hadn’t been picked up in 2010 plus another 4 had grown the largest was 70mmx53mm attached to the ilium crest bone. Over the last 3 months I have had x-rays, 2 biopsies, 4 visits to Chris. O’Brien Lifehouse (Camperdown) MRI, blood tests and given the bad news that I have glanulosa cell tumour (ovarian cancer). I have been referred to the Crown Princess Mary cancer centre at Westmead had more blood tests done, am taking anti-hormone tablets to slow down the cancer, have today had scans on chest abdomen and pelvic area am awaiting appointment for radiation treatment and have another appointment at Westmead centre in 2 weeks time. I think if I got through the 1994 tumour and removal I can get through this current situation with the help of specialists, research knowledge and the many friendly staff at the cancer centre at Westmead plus support from family and friends. I have only had a small amount of pain (over the last few months) in the right side pelvic area other than that no discomfort at all over the years, I am otherwise rather healthy and active have no physical restrictions am able to do everyday things. If anything I find sitting on low seats for too long I get a bit stiff in the back right side pelvic area like my joints need a little massage.
