Hello!

It finally happened, I told my daughter that she could not go on a walk around town with her friends, bearing in mind she has just turned 10, I told her I didn’t like the sound of it and I would like her to stay at home with me. Her friends were more than welcome to stay and play also. When are you going to start letting me do stuff on my own was the sulky reply….hmmm…. is thirty too old? At what point do you loosen the apron strings and why do I let myself feel pressured into doing things I don’t think we are ready for as a family by other more ‘relaxed’ parents? At no point did I ever think I would be the boring Mum…now hmmmm I’m not so sure!!

  • Us mums sure do get a rough trot! The kids need to realise we only do what we think is right, what we think is best for them, because we love them so much. It’s hard but stick to your guns, they might thank you for it later

  • It does depend on where you live and where they go and who they go with on trips. Trust your instincts and there is nothing wrong with protecting your child. There is plenty of time for children to develop independence during the teenage years.

  • I do not have the answer for you either but I think 10 is too young to walk around town, maybe make it clear to her that it is not that you dont trust her but there are alot weird and unsafe people out in the world, that do not nice things to nice little girls and boys, well somthing along thoses lines!
